The State of My Watch Collection in 2021

Introduction

2021 has flown by, and as the year comes to a close, it's time for me to reflect on the state of my watch collection. I thoroughly enjoy creating collection videos, as well as watching other watch reviewers' collection videos. There's something fascinating about seeing what watches others choose to keep in their collection and how their tastes evolve over time. It's also an excellent way for me to document the changes in my own collection. So, let's dive into the highlights of my watch collection in 2021.

Heirloom Watches

Certain watches in my collection hold immense sentimental value and are considered heirlooms. These timepieces carry personal significance, and I can't imagine parting with them.

  1. Invicta iForce: The Invicta iForce holds a special place in my collection as it was the first mechanical watch I received as a gift from my wife. It sparked my fascination with mechanical watches and ultimately led to my deep involvement in the watch hobby. This watch will forever remain in my collection as the one that started it all.

  2. Sarx055: The Sarx055 is a watch that holds sentimental value as it was the timepiece I wore on my wedding day. This watch serves as a cherished reminder of that special occasion and will stay in my collection for years to come.

  3. Seiko Quartz Chronograph 7838: This timepiece was a gift from my father-in-law, who knew about my passion for watches. It showcases one of the world's first quartz chronograph movements and has been serviced to ensure its functionality persists. The sentimental value attached to this watch makes it a long-term keeper in my collection.

  4. Seiko Mini Turtle: The Seiko Mini Turtle holds sentimental value as it was a gift from a dear friend. While I can't share the full story behind it, this watch carries a unique backstory, making it a remarkable addition to my collection. Despite its name, I believe Seiko should have called it the "Seiko Minnow" for a more fitting title.

  5. King Seiko 4500: The King Seiko 4500 is a high-beat watch that I purchased with the intention of servicing it myself. After successfully servicing it and receiving an exhibition case back as a gift, this timepiece has become an heirloom in my collection. Its intricate movement and beautiful design make it a standout piece.

Main Collection

Apart from the heirloom watches, I consider the following timepieces as the Core of my collection. While they lack sentimental value, these watches have earned their spot Based on design, functionality, and personal preference.

  1. Christopher Ward C60 Sapphire: The Christopher Ward C60 Sapphire caught my eye due to its transparent dial, showcasing the movement both from the front and back. While the Blue variant didn't appeal to me, the black dial version immediately captivated my Attention and has become one of my favorite watches in my collection.

  2. Sarx029: The Sarx029 features a traditional lacquer Arushi dial, a complication that has fascinated me for a long time. As Seiko increasingly moves upmarket, I decided to add this watch to my collection before prices rise. Its Timeless design and exquisite dial make it a recent but treasured addition.

  3. Orient Star Open Heart: The Orient Star Open Heart offers a unique Blend of dressy and sporty aesthetics. Its distinctive green and gold color scheme, coupled with an open heart complication, make this watch a standout piece. I have always been a fan of Orient Star's styling, and this timepiece perfectly captures their unconventional design approach.

  4. Sarx033: The Sarx033 is a classic watch known for its design and reliability. Despite having several watches with overlapping functions in my collection, I couldn't bring myself to part with this timepiece. It's a watch I genuinely enjoy wearing and appreciate for its timeless appeal.

  5. Seiko Paddy Monster: After owning the regular Monster, I was drawn to the Seiko Paddy Monster, which features a captivating blue bezel. This watch exceeded my expectations and has found a prominent place in my collection. Its unique color scheme sets it apart from the rest, and I find myself reaching for it frequently.

  6. NTH Barracuda: I acquired the NTH Barracuda to test the waters with the brand. Its thin case, Flawless finish, and guilt relief dial impressed me. While it doesn't receive as much wrist time as other watches in my collection, I still find it visually appealing and appreciate its execution. Its fate in the collection remains uncertain.

  7. Casio Edifice: The Casio Edifice has proven itself as the reigning champion among my watches. It has triumphed over various competitors in my Casio Edifice showdowns and remains undefeated. I'm keen to find worthy challengers for this watch in 2022, but as of now, it continues to be the standout timepiece in my collection.

Honorable Mentions

Aside from the watches Mentioned above, I have a couple of honorable mentions worth noting. These watches will soon be reviewed, and their fate in the collection is yet to be determined.

  1. Orient Defender: The Orient Defender is a versatile watch that effortlessly blends ruggedness with elegance. Its performance and design will be thoroughly assessed before making a final decision on its place in the collection.

  2. WMT Sub Diver: The WMT Sub Diver is another timepiece that will undergo a comprehensive review before its destiny in the collection is determined. Its quality and value proposition will be carefully evaluated.

Notable Absence

Although my collection saw several additions this year, it also experienced notable absences. One significant absence is the Steinhardt Ceramic GMT. Wavering between selling the watch to fund a larger purchase and retaining it, I ultimately opted to let it go. However, I must admit that I occasionally regret parting ways with this watch.

Conclusion

As 2021 comes to a close, the state of my watch collection reflects both sentimental value and personal preference. Some watches hold cherished memories, while others are admired for their design and functionality. While watches may come and go in my collection, the passion and enjoyment I derive from this hobby remain constant. I look forward to sharing the future evolution of my collection with You in the years to come.
