Introduction
Welcome to our new user training for TV for Education administrators. In this training, we will guide You through the process of getting started with TV for Education and teach you how to effectively use the system from an administrator's point of view. We will cover topics such as setting up security, managing users, searching the schools collection, and more. Whether you are a new user or need a refresher, this training will provide you with the necessary knowledge to maximize the benefits of TV for Education.
Getting Started with TV for Education
To get started with TV for Education, you need to receive a welcome letter from us which contains your site's private URL. This URL will be in the format of "stmary.functionalsolutions.com.u" or "smps.functionalsolutions.com." You will also receive your administration username, which is typically your school's email address. If you haven't received this email, please reach out to our support team at support@functionalsolutions.com for assistance. Once you have these details, navigate to the provided URL and log in using your username and password. If you forget your password, click on the "Forgot my password" link to reset it.
Setting up Security
One of the first things to do in TV for Education is to set up the security levels for your users. This allows you to control what content each user can access Based on their year level. We recommend setting the security level to be the same numerical value as the year level itself. For example, a year 10 student would have a security level of 10. To set up the security levels, navigate to the Authority Editor in the System menu. Select "Class Grade" from the audience drop-down menu. Here, you will see a list of all the year levels in your system. Make sure each year level has the correct security value assigned to it. If a year level is missing, you may need to import your students' information. Contact our support team for guidance on importing users.
Mapping Video Ratings
In TV for Education, you have the ability to map video ratings to security levels. This ensures that only users with the appropriate security level can access certain content. By default, the system assigns default security values to each video rating. G-rated content is accessible to all users with a security level of 0. PG-rated content is accessible to users from the lowest year level up to and including year 7. M-rated content is accessible to users from year 8 and above. You can customize these mappings by going to the Video Default Security section in the System menu. Make sure to select the correct security group for each video rating to ensure proper access control.
Managing Users
As an administrator, you have the ability to manage users in TV for Education. This includes adding new users and making changes to existing users' roles and permissions. To add a new user, navigate to the Patron Management section in the System menu. Click on the "New" button and enter the user's information, such as their email address, first name, surname, year level, and home room. For teachers, make sure to change the Roll from "Student" to "Teacher" to grant them additional access and tools. Remember to save the changes and inform the user of their login details. If a user leaves your school, make sure to remove them from the system to comply with licensing arrangements.
Searching the Schools Collection
The Schools Collection in TV for Education allows you to build a library of curated content specifically for your users. Here, you can modify metadata, group videos, tag them, and Create playlists. Students can search and access content that has been approved by administrators and teachers. To access the Schools Collection, click on the "Search" option in the System menu and select "Schools Collection." You will find categories, recently added content, and content from the Learning Tube, among other options. Simply click on a video to play it and utilize the toolbar on the right-HAND side for additional functions such as sharing and adding to favorites. Make sure to guide your staff members to the proper screen, as this is not intended for them.
