Animating Myself Into Anime: A New Challenge
Introduction
In this week's video, I decided to take on a new challenge: animating myself into anime. Usually, I draw myself into screenshots from anime, but this time, my patron suggested that I animate myself into anime to add movement. Intrigued by the idea, I chose the anime "Pretty Cure Delicious Party" as my first attempt. In this article, I'll walk you through the process of animating myself into anime and share the challenges I faced along the way. Additionally, I will discuss my Second animation project in the anime "Haikyuu."
Choosing the Anime: Pretty Cure Delicious Party
The reason I selected "Pretty Cure Delicious Party" for my first animation was its vibrant visuals and energetic action scenes. I wanted to animate something that had a good amount of movement, and Pretty Cure seemed to be a perfect fit. My idea was to run alongside the character Nagomi, tracing her poses and adding my own personal touch to make it Resemble my usual drawing style.
The Process of Animating Myself
To animate myself into Pretty Cure, I started by sketching out the first frame, where I would be running alongside Nagomi. I chose not to sketch the entire character but focused on the arms and hair, which were the key elements that needed adjustment. As the animation progressed, I moved the body up and down to match Nagomi's movements, while redrawing and refining the hair and the arms. The hair movement was a bit confusing at first, but I observed the original animation carefully and replicated the motion as best as I could.
Dealing with Hair and Movement
One of the most challenging aspects of animating myself into Pretty Cure was the hair movement. Initially, I was unsure of why the hair moved the way it did in the animation but realized it didn't necessarily need a specific reason. I aimed to mimic the movements of the hair, ensuring it moved in sync with the original animation. Although it was initially overwhelming, I managed to make my sketches Align with Nagomi's poses without overshadowing the character completely.
The Challenges of Line Art and Coloring
After completing the sketches, I moved on to the line art using the for effect line pen and the LINER for the anime, which had a dark brown color. I opted to draw myself slightly closer to the foreground to avoid the tedious task of overlapping my frames around parts like the hair and moving arms. With the help of vector layers, I could select and modify specific parts of the line art without redrawing the strands of hair repeatedly. This approach saved considerable time and effort.
The coloring process in Pretty Cure was intricate, primarily due to the shading and highlighting required. I meticulously added shadows and highlights to the hair, ensuring consistency throughout the animation. While time-consuming, the effort was worth it as it enhanced the overall aesthetic. The hair's constant movement made the shading and highlighting more challenging, but with minor adjustments and the use of the liquify tool, I achieved the desired effect.
The Finished Result: Me Animated in Pretty Cure Delicious Party
The final outcome of animating myself into Pretty Cure Delicious Party was captivating. I successfully blended into the anime, adding my own personality through facial expressions and mannerisms. The interaction with the characters felt more immersive, and I thoroughly enjoyed the experience. My siblings, with whom I watched the anime, found it amusing. If you're looking for a cute anime to watch with younger siblings, Pretty Cure Delicious Party is a great choice, though subtitling may require occasional explanations for younger viewers.

The Next Animation: Haikyuu
Continuing my Journey of animating myself into anime, I chose the popular anime "Haikyuu" for my next project. As a fervent fan of the Show, I was excited to animate myself alongside the beloved characters. The chosen scene depicted a typical playful banter between Hinata and Kageyama, capturing their dynamic relationship. Let's dive into the process of incorporating myself into the Haikyuu Universe.
Selecting the Scene and Planning My Placement
Before beginning the animation, I carefully selected a scene where I could Interact with Hinata and Kageyama. Placing myself between the two characters, I envisioned the humor in awkwardly inserting myself into their banter. Positioning myself closer to Kageyama, who had fewer movements than Hinata, allowed for easier illustration around the characters. This strategic placement added comedic value to the animation.
Sketching and Creating Keyframes
For the animation in Haikyuu, I adopted a different approach than the previous one. While I still used existing character art as a reference for proportions and style, I drew myself turned slightly sideways to match the scene's perspective. Referencing my previous anime edits in Haikyuu, I aimed to maintain consistency in artistic style. Sketching the characters and details in keyframes, I captured the essential moments of movement and expression.
Working on Line Art and In-Between Frames
Moving on to line art, I focused on perfecting the keyframes first before moving on to the in-between frames. The meticulous process involved redrawing specific lines and adjusting positions to ensure smooth transitions. To add depth and personality to my character, I made subtle changes to facial expressions and posture. Although redrawing lines around Kageyama posed a challenge, the vector layers facilitated the process, allowing for precise adjustments.
The Coloring Process in Haikyuu
Compared to Pretty Cure, Haikyuu's coloring process was relatively simpler, thanks to its more straightforward art style. Applying the appropriate color scheme, I aimed to Blend seamlessly into the anime. The animation's limited movement enabled quicker completion of the coloring stage, making the overall process smoother and faster.
The Final Animation and Conclusion
Completing my animation in Haikyuu filled me with a Sense of accomplishment. The Fusion of my character with the vibrant world of Haikyuu showcased my personal expressions and mannerisms in a lighthearted manner. While the animation process proved to be time-consuming, the end result was undoubtedly worth the effort.
In conclusion, animating myself into anime has been an exciting and challenging endeavor. It allowed me to merge my artistic style with beloved anime characters, creating unique and amusing animations. I plan to Continue exploring this creative endeavor, sharing the joy of animation with my audience.
