Introduction

Welcome back to the Channel! In today's video, I am excited to take on a design challenge inspired by the hit TV Show, "Schitt's Creek." I will be competing against an AI program called "Journey" to redesign David and Alexis's motel room from the show. As a devoted fan of "Schitt's Creek," this challenge holds a special place in my heart.

Background on "Schitt's Creek"

Before we dive into the challenge, let's take a moment to appreciate the unique aesthetic of "Schitt's Creek." The show centers around the Rose family, who find themselves living in a small motel in the titular town after losing their Fortune. Throughout the series, the motel room undergoes transformations, reflecting the growth and development of the characters.

Human vs. AI Challenge

In previous videos, I have used Journey as a source of inspiration for my designs. However, today's challenge is different. I will be pitting my own creativity against Journey's algorithm to see who can come up with the better design for David and Alexis's room. While I am aware that Journey's image will not be a fully executed design, it can still serve as a valuable reference.

Utilizing Reference Images

Every successful design project starts with gathering reference images. For this challenge, I drew inspiration from David's store, the Rose Apothecary, both in the show and in real life. The store's uplifting atmosphere and color scheme, featuring deep Sage green with warm lighting, greatly influenced my design for the motel room. I also collected various design details, colors, and elements to incorporate into the project.

Designing the Motel Room

In redesigning the room, I decided to keep the two single beds in their existing position, with a set of drawers between them. However, I introduced a new element—a kitchenette—where the Current wardrobe and desk setup are. To separate the kitchenette, I added a full-Height nib wall. The kitchenette provides basic functionality, allowing guests to make coffee, heat up food, and wash dishes. Adjacent to it, there is a small dining space.

The wardrobe now resides on the wall opposite the beds, accompanied by a built-in desk under a wall-mounted TV. This multi-functional desk serves both as a workspace and a TV unit, making the wall practical and aesthetically pleasing.

Comparing the Designs

After completing my design, it's time to compare it with Journey's generated image. While I'm satisfied with my design, let's evaluate whether Journey's image can compete. Upon analysis, it becomes apparent that Journey's design lacks Attention to Detail, with certain elements missing or appearing out of place. Overall, the generated images still seem dreamlike and hazy, rather than realistic.

Analyzing the Generated Images

To understand the limitations of the AI program, we must assess the generated images in detail. In particular, the disappearing Chord and headboard, which are inconsistent with the client's requirements, stand out as design flaws. While the images could benefit from more detail, it is essential to examine whether the Prompts provided enough information. I welcome your input on how to improve prompt input for future challenges.

Improving AI Prompt Input

To enhance the AI's performance in future challenges, it is crucial to refine the prompt input. Detailed prompts and design direction can provide the AI program with a better understanding of the desired outcome. I value your suggestions on how to improve the prompt input process and achieve more desirable AI-generated designs in upcoming challenges.

Conclusion

This human vs. AI design challenge, inspired by "Schitt's Creek," has been an exhilarating exercise. Despite the AI program's evolving capabilities, I believe my design came out on top. While both designs have their strengths and weaknesses, the AI-generated images still lack the level of detail and realism required. I intend to Continue exploring AI challenges periodically to witness the development of design programs. Thank You for joining me on this journey, and remember to subscribe to the channel for more exciting design content. Stay tuned for the next video!
