👉 Introduction

In this quick design video, I will show you how to create banner or ribbon shapes using Adobe Illustrator. It's a simple process that allows you to create various shapes with just a few minor tweaks. Let's dive right into it!

👉 Creating the Half of the Banner

To begin, we will use the pen tool in Illustrator. Press "P" on your keyboard to activate the pen tool. Now, create three points by clicking and holding down the shift key. First, click to the left, then below, and finally back to the starting point. The Dimensions of the Shape are not critical at this stage as they can be easily adjusted later.

👉 Duplicating and Mirroring the Banner

To save time, we can duplicate the shape we just created. Hold down the "Alt" and "Shift" keys and click and drag the shape about 45 degrees to create a mirrored copy. Use the direct selection tool (press "A" on your keyboard or select it from the toolbar) to click on a point and then drag it inward while holding down the shift key. Repeat this process for the point below, ensuring there is a slight overlap between the two shapes.

👉 Adding Effects to the Banner

To add a triangular shape to the end of the ribbon, select the line using the direct selection tool. Press the plus icon on your keyboard to add an anchor point to the line. Click on the intersection point to create the extra point. Then, select the point again using the direct selection tool and drag it inward while holding down the shift key. Now, the ribbon has a triangular shape at the end.

👉 Grouping the Ribbon

Select one half of the ribbon, copy it, and then paste it. Right-click the pasted shape, go to "Transform" and select "Reflect". Click "OK" and drag the reflected shape to the point where it intersects with the original shape. Now you have a complete ribbon. Group the ribbon by selecting all the shapes and pressing "Ctrl+G" on your keyboard.

👉 Adjusting the Proportions

You can easily adjust the proportions of the ribbon by selecting it and scaling it up or down. Experiment with different sizes until you achieve the desired effect. You can also make the ribbon thicker or thinner by adjusting the stroke.

👉 Creating Different Effects with Warp

Illustrator handles warp effects well when working with lines and shapes. You can use the warp tool to create various effects on the ribbon. For example, the "Arc" warp effect can create interesting curves. Play around with different warp effects to achieve unique and eye-catching designs.

👉 Using Banners for Titles

Banners can be used to create visually appealing titles or headers. Duplicate the ribbon and arrange multiple ribbons in a row to create a title or header design. Experiment with different effects, colors, and sizes to make your titles stand out.

👉 Conclusion

Creating banner or ribbon shapes in Adobe Illustrator is a straightforward process. By using the pen tool, duplicating and mirroring shapes, adding effects, and adjusting proportions, you can create stunning designs. Don't be afraid to experiment with different colors, effects, and sizes to unleash your creativity.
