Unhauling AI-generated Coloring Books

Have You ever found yourself surrounded by coloring books that you Never seem to touch? That was my situation. I had purchased four coloring books in December 2022, but they sat on my shelf untouched. Upon reflection, I realized that all four of these coloring books were likely AI-generated. And that's when I made the decision to purge my collection of AI-generated coloring books. In this article, I'll share with you the reasons behind my decision and my experience with these books.

When it comes to coloring books, personal preference plays a significant role. For me, AI-generated coloring books don't Align with my artistic vision. These books tend to have a similar look and feel because they are created using the same sources and software. While the images within these books can be visually appealing, I wanted to fill my collection with books that were more unique and original.

One particular coloring book caught my Attention on Instagram. Created by a specific artist, it showcased intricate line art that intrigued me. However, despite my admiration for the artwork, I never felt compelled to color in the book. Keeping a book solely for the sake of having it didn't align with my values. Therefore, I decided to include this book in my unhaul, unsure if it too was AI-generated.

Among the books I unhauling were two Gungeon Hall coloring books that were self-proclaimed to be Interested In AI. Another book by A. B. Hayley also gave me the impression of AI-generated content. Even though I initially purchased the A. B. Hayley book for its unique perspective on chibi illustrations, I found myself detached from the idea of coloring its pages. I made the decision to let go of these books, focusing on curating a collection that truly resonates with my artistic preferences.

But my Journey didn't end with unhauling. In contrast, I indulged in new coloring books that aligned with my vision. One such book was "Wildflower folk" by Kristen Caron. Though hesitant due to the price, I was pleasantly surprised by the high-quality paper and delightful artwork within it. I also obtained "Enchanted Earth" by Mel Pamini Chatsi Panagitu, a coloring book that allowed me to explore my creativity in a unique way.

To enhance my coloring experience, I introduced watercolor pencils to my collection. Opting for a more affordable option, I chose a set of 72 watercolor pencils by Calor. While not as pricey as other brands, these pencils still delivered vibrant results. Experimenting with them, I found that layering techniques and different blending mediums added depth to my coloring pages.

In my artistic journey, I was introduced to the concept of annotating and exchanging books with a friend. Together with my friend Andy, we reread a book and annotated it, sharing our thoughts, reactions, and insights with each other. This process gave me a new perspective on the book and made the reading experience more personal and interactive. I highly recommend trying this method with a friend who shares your love for literature.

In conclusion, unhauling AI-generated coloring books allowed me to curate a collection that truly reflects my artistic preferences. Embracing new coloring books, experimenting with watercolor pencils, and engaging in book exchanges added depth and excitement to my creative journey. Remember, personal preference and connection to the art should always be at the forefront when curating your own collection.
