Introduction

Welcome to an introduction into the rapid revisit and high-resolution SkySat solutions. In this webinar, we will explore the high-resolution mission at Planet and discover what sets our SkySats apart from other products on the market. We will Delve into how we produce the imagery and explore the various use cases for our customers. Let's dive in!

Overview of the High-Resolution Mission at Planet

At Planet, we operate two fleets: the Planet Scope Doves and the SkySat constellation. The Planet Scope Doves are a large fleet of four-band imaging satellites that map the world almost every single day at a resolution of 3.7 meters. Unlike other products, there is no tasking involved here. These satellites constantly capture the Earth on a near-daily basis.

On the other HAND, our SkySats offer high-resolution imaging in RGB and near-infrared, as well as panchromatic imagery. Unlike the Planet Scope Doves, the SkySats are tasking satellites and offer sub-daily captures globally. We Are proud to share that we recently witnessed two successful launches, increasing our fleet to 21 and breaking even more barriers with our record revisit capabilities.

Recent Launches and Record Revisit Capabilities

In the past few weeks, we had the privilege of witnessing two successful launches, further enhancing our fleet capabilities. With the launch of our Block 3 satellites, we are now able to provide an even better ground sampling distance. Moreover, we have also achieved an exciting milestone by lowering the orbit of our SkySats from 500 kilometers to 450 kilometers. Along with additional super resolution processing, this has enabled us to deliver 50 centimeter imagery. This improvement in resolution opens up new possibilities for our customers, allowing them to observe intricate details with unprecedented Clarity.

Unique Launch and Operation Methods

One of the most intriguing aspects of our SkySats is how we launch and operate them. Our video demonstration showcases the orbit for all SkySats and Doves, known as a sun-synchronous orbit. This orbit allows us to capture any point on Earth at the same local time, typically around 10:30 AM to 1 PM. The Block 3 satellites are positioned in an inclined plane of about 53 degrees, which increases our capture rate significantly. Depending on the Latitude of your target, you can expect 7 to 12 new revisions per day.

This incredible capability implies that revisits are distributed over a three-hour time frame. For example, if we capture an image at 1 PM, the capture time the following day will be 10:2 PM. With this approach, we can provide vantage points that have Never been seen before in commercial images. It opens up a world of possibilities for monitoring various activities and patterns of life on the ground.

Collection Types: Point and Strip

To cater to different use cases, we offer two collection types: point collection and strip collect. Point collection covers an area of 6x6 kilometers and is ideal for high-revisit monitoring. On the other hand, strip collect spans a larger area of 6x100 kilometers, making it preferable for wide area mapping. In the best-case Scenario, we can provide imagery within 14 hours from order submission.

Moreover, we also provide pre-processed imagery, which enables us to deliver imagery within three hours from capture. This quick turnaround time ensures that our customers can access the information they need promptly, allowing them to make faster and informed decisions.

Examples of SkySat Imagery

Let's take a closer look at some examples of SkySat imagery to give You a glimpse of the stunning details our satellites capture. In the new 450 kilometer orbit, we captured an image of the Mundra power plant in India. When zoomed in, the intricate details are clearly visible, showcasing the level of resolution our SkySats offer.

Another example is an image of Hormuz captured using only the panchromatic band, resulting in a black and white image. This example demonstrates the 50-centimeter resolution, highlighting how our SkySats can capture fine details even at such a high level of magnification. In 2019, our fleet was able to capture an image of Abu Dhabi port, showcasing the capability of capturing multiple images throughout a day with different satellites overhead. This level of high-revision capability opens up new possibilities in various industries, from emergency management to monitoring energy markets and agricultural cycles.

Benefits of SkySat: Improved Spatial Resolution and Tasking Access

In summary, SkySats offer unique advantages that set them apart from other solutions on the market. With the best revisit capabilities, you can rest assured that we will get your image first. The improved spatial resolution allows for greater clarity and detailed analysis. Additionally, we provide easier access to tasking, ensuring that our customers can acquire the imagery they need promptly. All these benefits come at an affordable price compared to similar products on the market.

Conclusion

In conclusion, the SkySats offered by Planet are at the forefront of high-resolution satellite imaging. With record revisit capabilities, improved spatial resolution, and easy accessibility, our SkySats are the perfect solution for a wide range of industries and applications. Experience the power of high-resolution imagery and make faster, well-informed decisions with Planet’s SkySats.
