Introduction
Welcome to my riding vlog! In this video, I'll be taking You on a five-day trail ride through the beautiful landscapes of New Austin. Join me as I share my experiences, challenges, and highlights from this exciting adventure.
Preparing for the Trail Ride
Before embarking on our journey, careful preparations were necessary. We had to ensure that we had all the necessary supplies for ourselves and our horses. Booking accommodations along the route was also a crucial step. Finally, the day had arrived, and we were ready to set off on our five-day hack.
Day 1: McFarlane Ranch
We started our trail ride from the iconic McFarlane Ranch in The North east of New Austin. As we arrived at the ranch, the bright and early morning greeted us, providing the perfect start to our adventure. The first task at HAND was tacking up the horses. While Queasy assisted with preparing her new cult, I focused on getting my horse, Jericho, ready for the day.
Tacking Up the Horses
Jericho, my six-year-old Turkmen stallion, required a bit of extra Attention. He was tense and agitated in the new environment. To ease his discomfort, we decided to do the warm-up in a smaller pen before moving to the big arena.
Warm-Up in the Pen
Despite the change in surroundings, Jericho remained tense during the warm-up. His restlessness became more apparent as he threw his head and led with his shoulder. The presence of passing trains further added to his distraction. Patience was key, and I tried my best to calm him down.
Moving to the Big Arena
To provide Jericho with a more spacious environment, we moved into the big arena. However, even in this larger space, his tenseness persisted. It was clear that the trains and unfamiliar surroundings were affecting him. Knowing his aversion to rain, I anticipated that the ensuing drizzle would only exacerbate his agitation.
Dealing with Distractions
As the rain started, Jericho's behavior worsened. Despite my attempts to acclimate him to the rain, he completely ignored my cues and refused to cooperate. Realizing the futility of continuing, I decided to wait with Queasy until the rain subsided.
Training with Martha
During the break in the weather, Queasy decided to engage in some training exercises with her horse, Martha. Jericho, enjoying the company of Martha, watched calmly as we captured some beautiful moments on camera.
Day 2: The Journey Begins
Fully prepared and equipped, we set off on our trail ride early in the morning. The cool morning air invigorated us as we embarked on the first leg of our journey.
Early Morning Start
Setting off around 6:45 a.m., we relished the serene atmosphere and the anticipation of the adventures that lay ahead. The companionship of Jericho and Queasy, the picturesque surroundings, and the promising journey made this moment truly special.
Taking in the Surroundings
As we started walking, I took a moment to appreciate the beauty surrounding us. A Sense of contentment enveloped me, and I realized how fortunate I was to have this experience. With Jericho by my side, I felt ready for the day's challenges.
Jericho's Desire to Lead
However, Jericho had a different idea. He seemed to think that he should lead the way, despite my preference to hang back and observe. His eagerness to be in front often hindered my confidence while riding. Teaching him to let other horses lead was an ongoing training endeavor.
Crossing the River
One aspect I was particularly apprehensive about was crossing the river. Jericho's aversion to rain heightened my concerns about his reaction to a large body of Water. To mitigate any potential issues, we allowed Queasy's horse, Thrown, to cross first, hoping that Jericho's competitive nature would encourage him to follow suit. Surprisingly, it was Thrown who hesitated while Jericho crossed without any issue.
Highlights of the Trail Ride
Throughout the journey, we encountered numerous Memorable moments. Here are some highlights from our trail ride:
Manzanita Post
Arriving at Manzanita Post, our accommodation for the night, we were delighted to be greeted by three friendly dogs. We settled the horses in and rewarded them for their hard work.
Cozy Cabin and Rainy Evening
The cabin we stayed in may not have been grand, but it exuded a sense of warmth and coziness. As the rain poured outside, we indulged in hot chocolate, engaging in deep conversations and enjoying each other's company.
Campfire under the Stars
When the rain subsided, we ventured outside to Gather around a campfire under the sparkling night sky. It was an enchanting experience, forging stronger bonds and creating lasting memories.
Conclusion
With each passing day, our trail ride became more captivating and rewarding. The challenges of taking care of the horses, navigating unfamiliar terrain, and dealing with unexpected weather added to the richness of the journey.
