Introduction

Welcome to this deep lizard course on AI art with stable diffusion. In this lesson, we will guide You through the process of setting up automatic AI art generation using the Automatic 1111 and Stable Diffusion software on a Google Collab instance. These two Core pieces of software will enable you to not only Create AI art but also iterate and test rapidly. Let's dive in and get everything up and running!

Getting Started with Automatic AI Art Generation

To begin, we need to follow a series of steps to set up the necessary environment. This includes uploading the notebook, configuring the GPU, downloading the Automatic 1111 interface and Stable Diffusion Model, and connecting to Google Drive. Let's go through each step in Detail.

2.1 Uploading the Notebook to Google Collab

The first step is to go to Google Collab and upload the notebook titled "Deep Lizard Collab Automatic 1111 UI.ipynb". If you have enrolled in the course, you will find this notebook on the lesson page. Once uploaded, we can proceed to the next step.

2.2 Configuring the GPU

To optimize performance for AI art generation, we need to configure the GPU. In the runtime settings, select the GPU option. We can verify the GPU configuration by running the provided test script.

2.3 Downloading the Automatic 1111 Interface

Next, we need to download the Automatic 1111 interface from GitHub. This involves executing a series of commands, including installing the required dependencies and cloning the application. Additionally, we will check out a specific version of the application for compatibility with the course. Once the installation is complete, we need to address a bug related to versions and make a configuration change for Linux machines to improve performance.

2.4 Downloading the Stable Diffusion Model

Now it's time to download the Stable Diffusion model from Hugging Face. This model is a crucial component of AI art generation. We will use the curl command to specify the link to the model and save it in the appropriate directory on the Google Collab instance.

2.5 Connecting to Google Drive

To ensure that our work is saved and easily accessible, we connect to Google Drive. By mounting Google Drive, we can copy files to and from the drive. After mounting, we need to copy the installed application and the Stable Diffusion model to the designated directories in the Google Drive.

Launching the Automatic 1111 Stable Diffusion Web UI

With all the necessary setup completed, we can now launch the Automatic 1111 Stable Diffusion web UI. There are two options for launching the application: without Google Drive (not recommended) and with Google Drive (recommended). Using Google Drive ensures that our work is securely saved and can be easily accessed from any location.

3.1 Launching without Google Drive (Not Recommended)

Although it is not recommended, we can still launch the interface without using Google Drive. However, this approach requires manual copying of files between the Google server and our local machine and can result in data loss if the server goes down. It is best to choose the recommended method.

3.2 Launching from Google Drive (Recommended)

To launch the application from Google Drive, we connect to our Google Drive account and run the required commands. This will authenticate our access to the application using a username and password. The application will now be up and running and accessible through a public URL that requires authentication. Note that the running application cell will continuously run until manually stopped.

Generating AI Art Using Automatic 1111

Finally, we can start generating AI art using the Automatic 1111 interface. We can simply input the desired parameters and click the "Generate" button. The application will iterate and generate stunning AI-generated images Based on our preferences.

Congratulations and Further Exploration

Congratulations on generating your first AI art using Automatic 1111! This marks the completion of the setup process. We encourage you to further explore the capabilities of the tool and experiment with different settings to generate unique and fascinating AI art.

Accessing Generated Images on Google Drive

All the generated images will be saved in the outputs directory on Google Drive under the Automatic 1111 folder. You can access them at any time and admire your creations.
