Let's Color Grade: Episode 3 - Enhancing the Mini 3 Pro Footage

Welcome back, everyone! It's time for another exciting episode of Let's Color Grade. In this episode, we will be exploring the incredible capabilities of the DJI Mini 3 Pro drone. Luke, a fellow filmmaker, has kindly donated a clip captured with this drone for us to work with. So, let's jump right in and see what we can do with the mini-free footage!

To start off, I have imported the clip into DaVinci Resolve and have made a few adjustments to the clip attributes. As the footage was shot in a vertical orientation, I have also adjusted the frame rate to match my preferred 30 frames per Second. Now that we have set the stage, let's dive into the collaborative tab.

Our first step is to perform some color correction. Using my usual workflow, I begin by applying a basic LUT (Look-Up Table) adjustment to the clip. This helps transform the D-Log footage into a more appealing image. After some tweaks to the gamma and color conversion, we already see a significant improvement in the overall look of the clip.

Moving on to the next phase, it's time to fine-tune the color grade. Using the Hue vs Hue curve, I make adjustments to various color ranges such as yellows, reds, greens, and blues. By warming up the yellows and increasing the saturation for the Reds and yellows, we achieve a more vibrant and eye-catching look for the footage.

For subtle adjustments, I utilize the saturation and luminance curves. Here, I slightly increase the saturation for the Reds and yellows while reducing it for the blues and teals. This adds more depth and dimension to the image, creating a visually engaging result.

To further enhance specific areas of interest, I Create power windows using custom shapes. By carefully manipulating the gamma, gain, and lift, I am able to draw Attention to particular elements in the frame and create a more dynamic and appealing composition.

Once all the adjustments are in place, I take a step back to evaluate the final color grade and ensure a Cohesive overall look. It's amazing to see how the simple act of color grading can transform the Mini 3 Pro footage into a stunning visual masterpiece.

In conclusion, I am incredibly impressed with the capabilities of the DJI Mini 3 Pro drone and the quality of the footage it produces. This color grading session has been an absolute pleasure, and I am grateful for the opportunity to work with Luke's clip. I hope You have enjoyed watching this episode and have learned something new about color grading drone footage. Until next time, happy filmmaking!
