Reevaluating the Inclusion of Dr. Bright in Articles

In recent events on the SCP Wiki, a discussion has arisen regarding the validity of leaving Dr. Bright's works up on the platform. As an author who has written numerous articles featuring this character, I feel a responsibility to examine the necessity of retaining Dr. Bright's name in my writings. While it may be argued that readers should be able to separate the author from the character, it is unreasonable to expect victims of Dr. Bright's actions to do so. The mere mention of his name could cause unnecessary pain.

Upon reviewing my articles on the SCP Wiki, I discovered that a significant number of them feature Dr. Bright. If I were to remove his name from these articles, many of them would require rewriting to some extent. One possible solution would be to introduce a new character, Dr. Simmons, with identical traits as Dr. Bright. However, such a drastic change may not be easily accepted by the community.

Consider, for example, the article in which Dr. Bright engages in a gunfight with Dr. Clef to acquire the last Nintendo Wii. The humor in this tale hinges on Dr. Bright having switched bodies and needing to acclimate his motor functions. Explaining this concept to readers would become more challenging without the established knowledge of who Dr. Bright is.

While I await the consensus on this matter, I have already made alterations to two stories. In my most popular tale, Dr. Bright is no longer allowed to use temporal anomalies to travel back in time to kill Hitler. Instead, I replaced Dr. Bright with Dr. Sumerian. This substitution allows for the continuation of the story while addressing the concerns raised.

Depending on the outcome of the ongoing discussion or the lack thereof, I may proceed to rewrite or modify the articles that still feature Dr. Bright's name. Although I do not expect others to follow suit, I believe it is the right course of action for me personally. Making this change aligns with my Sense of responsibility and empathy towards potential victims.

In conclusion, the incident with the Bright List has prompted a reevaluation of Dr. Bright's inclusion in my articles on the SCP Wiki. I am actively considering the impact of his name on readers who have been victimized and exploring alternative solutions. Finally, I recognize the need to wait for a community consensus while remaining committed to making the right decision.
