Sailing Adventure in Menorca
If You're looking for a thrilling adventure, sailing in Menorca is an experience you won't want to miss. With over 3,000 nautical miles to explore, this Mediterranean island offers a wealth of opportunities for sailing enthusiasts. In this article, we'll take you through our recent sailing adventure in Menorca, where we explored the island's stunning coastline, visited lighthouses and prehistoric caves, and met some inspirational sailors along the way.
Sailing to Menorca
Our adventure began with a sail to Menorca, one of the three Balearic Islands. We tied off in the marina just outside the main town and had a group of patrons fly from all over the world to join us. Our crew consisted of Peter and Simone, Nate and Jordan, Christian, Logan, and Jeff, who arrived later on the episode. We sailed to Lizard Island, anchored in the clearest Water, and had a little play with the lizards. We also checked out the lighthouse, which was an incredible experience.
Exploring Menorca on Scooters
One of the best ways to explore Menorca is on scooters, and that's exactly what we did. We hired some scooters and drove around the island, checking out the national park and some lovely beaches. We also visited a secluded little beach called Gaius Galvez, which was sheltered between steep vertical cliffs. We planned to take La Vagabond there in the next few days and explore the caves carved out between the ninth and seventh century BC.
Lighthouses and Caves
Menorca is home to seven lighthouses, and we made it a habit to visit each one. We also explored the prehistoric caves that were occupied by hippies in the 60s. We saved some of the caves for further exploration upon our return. We also visited a bar inside a cave, which was a unique experience.
Meeting Inspirational Sailors
During our adventure, we had the pleasure of meeting Craig and Liam, two inspirational sailors who bought a boat and left the UK to sail to Greece for the winter. Craig lost his limbs while serving in the Armed Forces, and Liam is legally blind due to a retinal degenerative disorder. They quit their Paralympic sailing dreams and embarked on a Journey that many would consider impossible. We were honored to meet them and share their story.
Scuba Diving in Menorca
Nate and Jordan, our dive instructors, arranged for us to do our first scuba dive in Menorca. The dive site was just around the corner, but it took us a good 20 minutes in the dinghy to get there. Nate was the first to Show us how it was done, and we all followed him into the darkness. We spent some time exploring the cave and admiring the marine life before returning to the surface.
Cala Coves and Prehistoric Caves
Cala Coves is surrounded by nearly 150 caves, some of which were occupied during prehistoric times. We anchored there and explored the caves, which was a unique experience. We also met some friends who joined us for the adventure and shared their incredible story with us.
Saying Goodbye to Friends
Sadly, our adventure had to come to an end, and we said goodbye to our friends. We had such an awesome time with them, and we're planning to do another adventure in Florida. We encourage you to join our Patreon crew if you'd like to join us on our next adventure.
