Ensuring Election Integrity: A Poll Watcher's Perspective
In recent times, the integrity of elections has become a major concern for many people. As a statewide poll watcher in Georgia, I have had the opportunity to witness firsthand some of the issues that arise during the election process. In this article, I will share my experiences and recommendations for improving the transparency and authenticity of our elections.
Role as a Statewide Poll Watcher
As a statewide poll watcher, my role differs from that of precinct poll watchers. I have the responsibility of monitoring the election process at various polling locations throughout the state. This allows me to provide a broader perspective on the issues that arise during elections.
Election Day Experiences
One of the glaring examples of election irregularities occurred when I was denied access to Birmingham Falls Elementary, a polling location in Fulton, Georgia. Despite presenting my state-issued badge and a letter from the Secretary of State, the poll manager refused to let me in. This was just the first of many instances where I encountered challenges in carrying out my duties.
Another concern I observed was the engagement of Democrat poll watchers with voters outside polling locations in Roswell. At both Mimosa Elementary and Esther Jackson, these poll watchers were collecting voter data and information. Such practices Raise questions about privacy and the impartiality of the election process.
Observations at State Farm Arena
My role as a poll watcher extended to the observation of absentee ballots processing at State Farm Arena. However, meaningful observation proved to be a challenge. The layout of the room and various obstructions such as voting equipment and structural poles made it difficult to closely monitor the process. Additionally, the lack of visibility into the duplication of military and Yuakawa ballots raised concerns about their authenticity and validation.
Dekalb County Recount
During the first recount in Dekalb County, I witnessed attempts to inflate the vote count for Joe Biden. Frustrated with the limited observation capabilities, I decided to focus on the table where workers were entering recount tallies into the system. Here, I noticed a pattern in the expected final tally, which appeared to be inflated by approximately 9626 votes from Biden's favor. This discrepancy was concerning, and I promptly reported it for investigation.
Recommendations for Improving Election Integrity
Based on my experiences as a poll watcher, I believe several measures can be implemented to enhance the integrity of elections. Firstly, ensuring meaningful observation is crucial. Providing state-issued N95 masks would enable poll watchers to closely monitor the election process without compromising their safety.
Transparency in vote totals is another area that requires Attention. Displaying the vote totals on large screens at locations like State Farm Arena and Dekalb County would allow for greater transparency and accountability. Watchers should also be able to verify the sheets of paper being turned in and have them displayed on the screens.
Bipartisan participation throughout various stages of the process, especially for the processing of military and Yuakawa ballots, is essential for ensuring transparency and authenticity. Collaboration between parties can help address concerns and maintain the integrity of the election.
Proper notice to county chairs and poll watchers is also critical. Providing a minimum 48-hour notice for counts or processes would ensure sufficient staffing and reduce last-minute scrambles.
Lastly, there is a need for fraud awareness training. Including fraud awareness in the poll manager's oath and providing resources on the Secretary of State's Website would help deter fraudulent activities and raise awareness about the consequences of voter fraud.
In conclusion, it is imperative to address the existing challenges and loopholes in our election process to maintain the integrity of our democracy. By implementing meaningful observation, transparency measures, bipartisan participation, Timely notices, and fraud awareness training, we can ensure fair and accurate elections that truly reflect the will of the people.
