Installing an Engine Front Mount Intercooler on a Fiat 500 Abarth

Hey guys, Brian here, owner of Engine Customs and Performance. In today's guide, I'm going to Show You how to install an engine front mount intercooler onto a Fiat 500 Abarth. This upgrade will help enhance the performance and efficiency of your car, so let's dive right in.

Tools Required

Before we begin, let's make sure you have all the necessary tools at HAND. Here's what you'll need:

  • Phillips head and flat head screwdrivers
  • 3/8 inch socket wrench with extension
  • 7mm, 10mm, 13mm, and 15mm wrenches
  • 7mm, 8mm, 10mm, 13mm, and 15mm sockets
  • T27 Torx bit socket
  • Window felt
  • Phillips head socket wrench with extension
  • 10mm, 14mm, 15mm, and 17mm deep sockets
  • Impact gun
  • Torque wrench

Preparing the Vehicle

The first step is to Raise the vehicle up in the air and remove the two front wheels. Most factory wheels are equipped with a 17mm bolt, so a 17mm socket will do the trick. Once the wheels are off, we can move on to removing the factory skid plate. This plate is secured with six 10mm bolts, so grab your 10mm socket and remove them. Once the skid plate is off, set it aside.

Removing the Front Bumper

To access the engine front mount intercooler, we'll need to remove the front bumper. Start by removing the screws and bolts that secure the bumper, using a Phillips head and T27 Torx bit socket. Don't forget to also remove the screws on the inner fender LINER on both the passenger and driver's sides. Once everything is detached, you can gently pull back the fender liner to gain access.

Loosening the Crash Bar

With the front bumper removed, we can now loosen the crash bar. There are bolts located in the center, underneath, and on both sides of the crash bar. Start by removing the bolts underneath, followed by the center bolt. Don't discard these bolts, as they can be useful replacements for the skid plate. Finally, loosen the bolts on both sides using a 15mm socket. Do not completely remove them at this point.

Disconnecting Hoses and Pipes

Now it's time to disconnect the various hoses and pipes. Start by removing the hose clamps using a 7mm socket and prying the hoses apart. Be careful, as some hoses may be stuck and require a bit of force to remove. Next, remove the cooling ducts for the side mount intercoolers using an 8mm socket. Keep track of the bolts and set them aside. Lastly, remove the lower cover by taking out the two bolts using an 8mm socket.

Installing the Engine Front Mount Intercooler

Now for the main event - installing the engine front mount intercooler. Start by routing the pipes and hoses through the designated areas. Make sure to use the provided clamps to secure the connections tightly. Once the intercooler Core is properly placed, tighten the bolts using a 13mm socket. Double-check all the connections and ensure that the clamps are fully tightened.

Reassembling the Vehicle

With the intercooler installed, it's time to reassemble the vehicle. Start by reattaching the front bumper, inner fender liner, and skid plate using the reverse steps of their removal. Make sure to tighten all the screws and bolts to the appropriate torque specifications. Finally, reinstall the front lights, battery tray, and any other components that were removed earlier.

Conclusion

Congratulations! You have successfully installed an engine front mount intercooler on your Fiat 500 Abarth. This upgrade will significantly improve your car's performance and cooling efficiency. Remember to double-check all the connections and tighten all the clamps before taking your vehicle out for a test drive. Enjoy the enhanced driving experience!
