Introduction

Over the past years, Singapore Airlines has had to make many service adjustments due to Covid, but after this Journey with them, I can say for sure they are back on the up and up. Originally, I was booked on Singapore’s non-stop service- but after some ticketing changes, I ended up on the direct service via Frankfurt- departing JFK on Thanksgiving day. It should have been a travel headache, but it was far from it.

Booking and Check-in Process

Arriving at Kennedy’s Terminal 4, three and a half hours before departure, I was expecting crazy long lines, but it was surprisingly quiet. Singapore had around 16 agents available for their two flights leaving that evening. The check-in process was a bit lengthy, as I had a final destination of Thailand and had to Show ten separate documents, each individually approved by a supervisor. Despite this strict process, the check-in agents were patient and diligently navigated the different requirements of each country.

Pros:

  • Efficient and dedicated check-in agents
  • Strict adherence to travel document requirements

Cons:

  • Lengthy check-in process

Lounge Experience at JFK

After checking in, I had some unexpected time on HAND and decided to visit the lounges. The first stop was the Amex Centurion Lounge, which is known for its comfortable seating, decent food selection, and full bar. The lounge had an upper and lower level, with the lower level being less crowded. However, the Hidden gem of the JFK lounge was the speakeasy located behind an unassuming door. The lounge staff were friendly and the atmosphere was completely different, making it a great place to relax before the flight.

Pros:

  • Comfortable seating
  • Decent food selection
  • Hidden speakeasy

Cons:

  • Limited seating on the upper level

Seat Configuration and Best Seat Options

Onboard the Singapore Airlines flight, I was seated in the bulkhead bassinet fitted seat in row 15. The seat provided noise-canceling headphones, a COVID care kit, and other amenities. The aircraft featured four First Class open suites, 48 Business Class seats, 28 Premium Economy seats, and 184 Economy seats. To ensure a comfortable journey, it is recommended to avoid seats 19 and 21 A & K, as they are windowless. The best seat options are 11 A & K, but these seats are often in high demand. Rows 20, 22, and 23 are directly over the wing, so it is important to consider the view if relying on the window for entertainment.

Pros:

  • Comfortable bulkhead seat with amenities
  • Multiple seat options with extra legroom

Cons:

  • Limited window views in certain seats
  • Lack of individual air vents

In-Flight Meals and Service

During the flight, Singapore Airlines provided a meal service that consisted of appetizers, main courses, and desserts. The options included a cold-poached Salmon appetizer, slow-roasted beef filet as the main course, and a variety of fresh fruit, cheese, and crackers for dessert. The quality of the meals was good overall, but some passengers found the appetizers to be hit or miss. The main courses, however, were well-prepared and flavorful. The flight attendants provided attentive and professional service throughout the journey.

Pros:

  • Well-prepared and flavorful main courses
  • Attentive and professional flight attendants

Cons:

  • Hit or miss appetizers

On-Board Entertainment

The on-board entertainment system on the Singapore Airlines flight offered a wide selection of movies and TV shows. While there were plenty of movies to choose from, some TV shows only had one or two episodes available. The entertainment system was functional, but some passengers wished for better TV offerings. Overall, it provided sufficient entertainment options for the duration of the flight.

Pros:

  • Wide selection of movies
  • Functional entertainment system

Cons:

  • Limited number of episodes for TV shows

Amenities and Amenities Kits

Singapore Airlines provided amenity kits at each seat. The kits, provided by Penhaligon’s of London, included lotion, lip balm, facial mist, and perfume oil. The pouches were of good quality and size. Additionally, the airline offered free 100mb of fast Wi-Fi for Business class passengers, with the option to purchase additional data at a relatively high price. The amenities and Wi-Fi services provided were satisfactory.

Pros:

  • High-quality amenity kits
  • Free 100mb of fast Wi-Fi

Cons:

  • Steep prices for additional Wi-Fi data

Overall Flight Experience

The Singapore Airlines flight provided a solid overall experience. The seats were comfortable, the service was attentive, and the cleanliness of the aircraft was commendable. The airline's Website was user-friendly, although the mobile app had some glitches. The availability of Book the Cook options for the meals was limited, but the main course selections were satisfactory. The in-flight entertainment system offered a good variety of movies, while the amenity kits provided by Penhaligon’s of London were of high quality. With these factors in mind, the overall flight experience was rated highly.

Pros:

  • Comfortable seats and attentive service
  • Cleanliness of the aircraft
  • User-friendly website

Cons:

  • Limited Book the Cook options for meals
  • Glitches in the mobile app

Arrival and Lounge Experience in Frankfurt

Upon arrival in Frankfurt, passengers were required to disembark while the plane was refueled and the crew changed. Passengers had the option to spend the layover time plane spotting or visiting the nearby Lufthansa Senator Lounge. The lounge offered a variety of seating areas and drink options, as well as a small assortment of snacks. It was a busy lounge, and the presence of a First Class section in the middle may have seemed awkward to some passengers.

Pros:

  • Variety of seating areas and drink options
  • Convenient location near the gate

Cons:

  • Awkward placement of First Class section
