Have You ever found yourself lacking inspiration when it comes to coming up with new video ideas for your YouTube Channel? Don't worry, you're not alone. Generating fresh and engaging content can sometimes feel like a daunting task. While there are various methods you can try, such as copying other creators in your niche or brainstorming, many people are unaware that YouTube itself offers a feature that can provide personalized video ideas based on your channel's audience.

Using the YouTube Dashboard for Video Inspiration

Inside your YouTube dashboard, there is a Hidden gem called the Research tab that can assist you in finding new and exciting video ideas. This feature, introduced in 2022, allows creators to conduct keyword research without the need for third-party software like TubeBuddy or VidIq. Although it may not be as advanced as those plugins, the Research tab is completely free and still offers valuable suggestions.

Searches across YouTube

The first section of the Research tab focuses on searches across YouTube as a whole. If you already have a video topic idea or a specific topic phrase in mind, you can simply Type it into the search box. The results will display the exact phrases that people are searching for related to that topic, along with their search volume ranking categorized as low, medium, or high. For a more in-depth analysis, you can even explore the graphs in Google Trends by clicking on the three dots beside each phrase. This information gives you insights into whether people are interested in that topic and whether it's worth creating a video about it.

Your Viewers' Searches

The most exciting and valuable part of the Research tab is the "Your Viewers' Searches" section. Here, YouTube provides a list of search terms and phrases that your audience has been searching for within the last 28 days. This Insight allows you to understand what your audience is looking for, offering ready-made video ideas. While some of these search terms may seem random or irrelevant, alongside them, you may find Gems that Align perfectly with your channel's content.

Experiment: Making a Video Based on a Recommended Search Term

To put the effectiveness of using recommended search terms to the test, I conducted an experiment. One of the search terms suggested in my Research tab was "how to delete YouTube channel." This ready-to-use phrase had a high search volume ranking and was labeled as a "Content Gap" – meaning YouTube identified it as an idea that my audience struggled to find or for which the existing content was outdated.

Excited by the potential, I created a video centered around this search term. I strategically included the key phrase in the title, description, and tags. After uploading the video, I monitored its performance.

Results of the Experiment

To my surprise, the video performed fairly well in the first few days. As expected, most viewers discovered the video through YouTube and Google searches. The specific nature of the topic, addressing a particular question, attracted search traffic. However, the video's audience retention was not optimal, leading to a slight decline in views over time. Nevertheless, keyword-focused content like this often performs better in the long term rather than the short term.

It's important to note that just because a search term has a high search volume doesn't automatically guarantee success for your channel. Dominated by established creators with large subscriber bases, highly competitive keywords can be challenging to rank for. This is where the "Content Gap" label becomes valuable, helping you identify video ideas that cater to your audience's specific needs.

While YouTube's Research tab offers valuable insights and video ideas, success still relies on your efforts to Create high-quality content. Optimizing your video's description and thumbnail can greatly impact click-through rates and viewer engagement.
