A Fistful of Dice: Rolling up as a Pathfinder Character
Introduction
In this video response, I will be rolling myself up as a character in the Pathfinder system. I will be choosing my abilities, race, class, and explaining how I came to these decisions. I tried not to power game or optimize myself, focusing instead on representing my true strengths and weaknesses. So, without further ado, let's get rolling!
Strength
I put my strength at 14. While it may seem a little high, I have been working on increasing my strength over the past year and a half. I regularly see a trainer and do strength training at home, which has led to significant improvements. While I may not be ridiculously strong, I am the strongest I have ever been.
Pros: Continual strength training has resulted in noticeable improvements.
Cons: Not the strongest in comparison to others.
Dexterity
For dexterity, I put myself at a 10. I'm not necessarily clumsy, but I wouldn't say I'm super coordinated either. I have Never been good at sports, but I am still fairly deft with my hands. I play musical instruments that require coordination, such as the bass guitar and drums. So, I have some level of dexterity, but it's not exceptional.
Pros: Coordination in playing musical instruments.
Cons: Lack of coordination in sports and athletics.
Constitution
My constitution is my high stat, which I put at 15. Despite having overcome medical issues in the past, I rarely get sick now. I take good care of myself through proper nutrition and vitamin intake. Being conscious of my health has allowed me to lead a normal and healthy life. I am determined to stay healthy and seldom become ill.
Pros: Overcoming past medical issues and leading a normal life.
Cons: Less resistance to illness compared to others.
Intelligence
Intelligence is where I put myself at a 12. I am an educated individual, having graduated from college. While I am not the smartest person, I am skilled in analyzing and reasoning. However, I do struggle in areas like math. I have good logical and reasoning abilities, but I wouldn't label myself as a genius.
Pros: Analytical and logical thinking abilities.
Cons: Not exceptional in math or academic intelligence.
Wisdom
I perceive wisdom as common Sense, self-awareness, and knowledge about life. For wisdom, I put myself at 14. I consider myself to have good willpower and make wise decisions. Thinking about the bigger picture and considering the consequences of my actions is something I prioritize. I am non-impulsive and think things through, making me fairly wise.
Pros: Good decision-making skills and self-awareness.
Cons: Not excessive wisdom or intellectual Insight.
Charisma
Charisma is where I put myself at a 12 or maybe an 11. While I am a confident person and like myself, I am not naturally outgoing or the center of Attention. I consider myself a likable person, but I am more introverted and reserved. I tend to need alone time to recharge, even though I enjoy interacting with others. Overall, my charisma is average.
Pros: Self-confidence and likability.
Cons: Introverted nature and preference for alone time.
Alignment
My alignment is neutral good. I am not lawful, but I do thrive on routine and normalcy. I tend to maintain a neutral stance on many things. I prioritize helping others and have a strong sense of morality. I strive to do good and consider the well-being of others, especially my close friends.
Pros: Thriving on routine and prioritizing helping others.
Cons: Lack of extreme convictions or adherence to rules.
Race
This decision caught me off guard, but I believe I am an elf. I am a patient person who appreciates nature and the arts. While I don't often play elves, I relate to their gentle and methodical nature. I am not bold or mischievous like gnomes or halflings, nor am I stubborn like dwarves. So, elf it is!
Pros: Patience, appreciation for nature and the arts.
Cons: Lack of boldness or mischievousness.
Class
Coming to the class decision was the easiest part for me; I am the cleric of the group. Not in a religious sense, but in the sense that I am the glue that holds everyone together. I am efficient in mediating and solving conflicts within my friend group. I prioritize the well-being of the group and play a supportive role. The cleric class aligns perfectly with my real-life role.
Pros: Efficient mediator and supportive nature.
Cons: Potential dependency on others for decision-making.
Conclusion
Choosing my abilities, race, and class as a character in the Pathfinder system was an interesting exercise. It allowed me to reflect on my own strengths and weaknesses and how I perceive myself. While representing myself in an RPG character was challenging, it was a fun and insightful experience. I look forward to seeing what choices others make when rolling themselves up as characters!
