Article: April 2021 Wrap-Up and Book Reviews

Hello everyone, and welcome back to my Channel! Today, I want to share with You my April 2021 wrap-up, where I'll be discussing the five books I Read this month. It was a great reading month for me, as I managed to finish a total of five books. Without further ado, let's dive right into the reviews.

But before we begin, I have some exciting news to share. I recently started my new job at Firefly Press, and with that, I've had the opportunity to read some of our backlist titles and upcoming releases. I'll be mentioning them on my channel, but I've decided not to rate them going forward. I believe that you, as readers, should make up your own mind about the books and their ratings. With that said, let's jump into the reviews.

Book 1: "The Gilded Ones" by Namina Fauna

The first book I finished in April was "The Gilded Ones" by Namina Fauna. This book has been described as a Blend of the Dora Milaje from "Black Panther" and "The Handmaid's Tale," and it's a perfect description. The story is incredibly gripping and vividly written. However, I must warn you that the beginning is quite brutal and hard-hitting, so be prepared if you're sensitive to such content. Overall, I highly recommend this book and cannot wait for the next installment in the series.

Book 2: "Welsh Fairy Tales Myths and Legends" by Claire Fayers

Next up, I read "Welsh Fairy Tales Myths and Legends" by Claire Fayers. This book takes some of the author's favorite Welsh tales and myths and presents them in a witty and humorous way for a middle-grade audience. I absolutely loved learning about the mythology of Wales through these enchanting stories. Whether you want something to read aloud to kids or simply want to explore Welsh mythology, this book is a delightful choice. The beautiful edition from Scholastic makes it even more appealing.

Book 3: "Create a Lake" by Jennifer Killick

Moving on to "Create a Lake" by Jennifer Killick, this book is a humorous horror thriller for middle-grade readers. It follows the story of Lance and his classmates who embark on a nightmarish school trip. Each character brings their unique skills and strengths to the table, making it a fun and thrilling read. I found the combination of humor and horror refreshing and enjoyed the unpredictable twists and turns in the story. I highly recommend this book for middle-grade readers looking for something different.

Book 4: "Lori Lorian Max" by Catherine Flynn

"Lori Lorian Max" by Catherine Flynn is a detective story that revolves around the main character, Lori, and her friend Max. When money goes missing, along with Max, Lori takes it upon herself to solve the mystery. This book sensitively addresses Hidden poverty and provides a great way to discuss these important issues with younger readers. It's a quick and enjoyable read, suitable for readers aged seven to twelve. I highly recommend giving this book a try.

Book 5: "The Wanderer" by Josie Williams

Lastly, I had the opportunity to read an upcoming release titled "The Wanderer" by Josie Williams. This book is a compelling YA romance with a paranormal twist. It follows the love story between Ryder, who has been dead for five years, and Maggie, a 15-year-old girl navigating life alone. Despite not being a typical genre I usually read, I found the book incredibly addictive and engaging. Josie Williams' hopeless romantic side shines through in this well-written Novel. Look out for its release on October 7th.

In conclusion, April was a fantastic reading month for me, and I highly recommend all the books I Mentioned. Each book offers a unique and captivating reading experience, from the powerful storytelling in "The Gilded Ones" to the whimsical Welsh tales in "Welsh Fairy Tales Myths and Legends." If any of these books pique your interest, I encourage you to give them a try. Happy reading!
