Introduction

Hey there, it's Emily! Welcome back to my Channel. After a long seven-month break, I am excited to jump back into the swing of things. And what better way to start than participating in the February Sims Readathon? Run by Ashley from Ashley's Reads, this readathon is Based on the popular game, The Sims. So, without further ado, let's dive into my TBR (To Be Read) list for the readathon!

The Sims Readathon

The Sims Readathon is a month-long event that revolves around the Prompts inspired by The Sims expansion packs. Each prompt corresponds to a different aspect of the game and requires participants to choose books based on those themes. This readathon not only encourages reading but also adds a fun gaming twist to the experience. So, let's explore the different prompts and the books I've selected for each one.

Prompt 1: University

In this prompt, participants are required to read a book with a school setting or one that explores a mentor/mentee relationship. While I initially planned to choose a 15-year-old YA book, I decided against it due to its outdated nature. Instead, I've opted for "Heartstopper" by Alice Oseman, volume one. This graphic Novel revolves around high school life and has received rave reviews. I'm excited to Delve into this adorable story!

Prompt 2: Nightlife

For the Nightlife prompt, the goal is to select a book set in a big city. I've chosen "Certain Dark Things" by Sylvia Moreno-Garcia, which I started reading last October but haven't finished yet. This dark, noir novel set in Mexico City intertwines vampire Lore with Aztec mythology. Although it's a bit slow-paced, I'm eager to pick it back up and get immersed in its atmospheric setting.

Prompt 3: Open For Business

Open For Business requires participants to choose a book where the main character has a profession they either have or aspire to have. My selection for this prompt is "A Kind of Magic" by Anna Spargo Ryan. This memoir explores the author's life as a Writer, which aligns with my own passion for writing. With its honest portrayal of anxiety and mental health, coupled with humor, I'm looking forward to diving into this highly acclaimed book.

Prompt 4: Pets

The Pets prompt presents two options: having a pet help choose a book or selecting a book that features pets. As I don't have any pets, I've opted for the Second choice. After some consideration, I settled on "Where the Weird Things Are" by Claire Rhoden and Austin P Sheean. Although I've only read a few stories from this anthology, it includes various pets and intriguing creatures, making it a suitable choice for this prompt.

Prompt 5: Seasons

In the Seasons prompt, participants are tasked with choosing a book that reflects their favorite season. While my favorite season is technically Autumn, I struggled to find a book that aligns with it. As a workaround, I've decided to pretend that my favorite season is spring for the purposes of this readathon. Hence, I've chosen "A Marvellous Light" by Freya Marske, featuring a cover adorned with foliage and flowers.

Prompt 6: Bon Voyage

The Bon Voyage prompt calls for selecting a book that features a trip of some sort. My chosen book is "Tussaud" by Belinda Lyons Lee, a historical fiction novel showcasing Madame Tussaud's voyage from France to England. With possible elements of steampunk and an intriguing premise, this book promises to be an exciting adventure.

Prompt 7: Free Time

For the Free Time prompt, participants must choose a book where the main character has a hobby. After some consideration, I settled on "The Dictionary of Lost Words" by Pip Williams. The protagonist, Esme, spends her time collecting words and slips of paper in a chest. While it may be a bit of a stretch, this book explores the fascinating world of lexicography and brings a unique hobby to the forefront.

Prompt 8: Apartment Life

The final prompt, Apartment Life, requires participants to read a novella or a book under 300 pages. In line with this prompt, I've selected "The Route of Ice and Salt" by Jose Luis Zarate, translated by David Bowles. This queer Spanish reinterpretation of Dracula's voyage promises a quick and engaging read with its concise pages and intriguing storyline.

Conclusion

There You have it, my TBR for the February Sims Readathon. I'm excited to explore various themes and genres through these carefully chosen books. While my selections are subject to change, I'm determined to stick to my physical TBR and make significant progress during this readathon. Wish me luck, and I'll see you in the next video! Bye!
