Introduction
Welcome to our latest house project, where We Are transforming a closet into a coffee bar area. In this three-part series, we will guide You through each step of the process, from demolishing the closet to the final touches. Join us as we Create a cozy and functional coffee bar space that you'll love.
Demolition and Planning
The first step in our coffee bar transformation was to demolish the old closet and come up with a plan for the new space. We carefully removed the closet walls and prepared the area for the upcoming renovations. With a clear vision in mind, we were ready to move forward with our project.
Shopping for Materials
To create a stunning coffee bar, we needed to find the perfect materials. We went shopping for tiles, cabinets, and a countertop to bring our vision to life. After visiting different stores, we found the ideal tile from Floor and Decor and purchased 12-inch unfinished cabinets from Home Depot. With our materials in HAND, we were ready to tackle the next steps.
Flooring Work
Before starting any further renovations, we had to address the flooring in our coffee bar area. We worked on leveling the floor and installing the appropriate subflooring. Once the groundwork was complete, we moved onto the electrical work.
Electrical Work
To ensure our coffee bar area had adequate lighting and power supply, we delved into the electrical work. We added two small can lights and plugins to brighten up the space and accommodate various electrical needs. Ensuring the safety and functionality of our coffee bar was a top priority.
Tiling
A crucial aspect of our coffee bar's aesthetic was the tilework. We meticulously laid the tiles, ensuring they covered the entire area, including up to the Ceiling. The chosen tile added a touch of elegance to our coffee bar, tying the whole design together.
Painting the Walls
Once the tiling was complete, we allowed the mortar to dry overnight. The next morning, we painted the walls inside the former closet to match the rest of the house. The agreeable gray color by Sherwin-Williams created a Cohesive and inviting atmosphere.
Cabinet Installation
To bring our coffee bar to life, we installed the cabinets. However, a few modifications were necessary to achieve the perfect fit. We trimmed the backs of the cabinets and adjusted the drawer brackets to ensure they fit seamlessly into the space. Despite these alterations, the aesthetics and functionality of the cabinets remained intact.
Coffee Bar Accessories
No coffee bar is complete without the right accessories. We ordered a variety of items from Teemu, including a coffee grounds knockbox, stylish cups, a syrup Pump set, wooden accessories, and more. These items added personality and functionality to our coffee bar setup.
Countertop Installation
For our countertop, we opted for a cost-effective alternative to butcher block. We found a farmhouse project panel at Lowe's that offered the same aesthetic at a fraction of the price. After cutting and staining the panels, we applied a Water-Based top coat for durability and protection.
Painting the Cabinets
To match the aesthetics and create a cohesive look, we decided to paint the cabinets white. This choice allowed for versatility in the future, as we can easily change the color if desired. We removed the cabinet doors and drawer fronts, spraying them outside, while painting the outside of the cabinets with a brush and roller.
Trim and Finishing Touches
The cabinets required the final touches to achieve a polished look. We added trim around the edges, providing a clean and finished appearance. Additionally, we applied caulking to ensure a seamless transition between the cabinets and the walls.
Installing the Refrigerator
To make our coffee bar area fully functional, we installed a beverage fridge. After carefully measuring the space, we found a refrigerator that fit perfectly. With its stainless steel front and adjustable shelves, the fridge added both practicality and style to our coffee bar.
Building the Floating Shelves
To maximize storage and display options, we decided to install two wooden floating shelves above the countertop. We cut and sanded plywood, attaching it to 2x4 supports mounted on the walls. The shelves provided a perfect spot for showcasing coffee mugs, jars, and other decorative items.
Setting Up the Coffee Bar
With all the major renovations complete, it was time to set up our coffee bar area. We placed the espresso machine, ice maker, and stocked the refrigerator with drinks. The shelves were carefully arranged with coffee-related accessories, creating an inviting and functional space.
Before and After
After weeks of hard work and dedication, our coffee bar area transformation finally came to fruition. The before and after photos showcase the remarkable difference the project made. We are thrilled with the outcome and are excited to enjoy our new coffee bar for many years to come.
