Review: Sephora Plus Pantone Universe Palette - A Burst of Marsala Beauty
Hey guys, I’m back with another review for You. Today, while putting on my makeup for a video review, I thought it would be the perfect opportunity to do a tutorial showcasing the new Sephora Plus Pantone Universe Palette. This palette is a collaboration between Sephora and Pantone Universe, and every year, they Create a collection of eyeshadows, blushes, and lip colors inspired by the color of the year. This year, the color of the year is Marsala, a deep berry-toned red inspired by the wine from the town of Marsala in Italy.
Now, let's dive into the tutorial and create a stunning look using this palette.
To start with, I filled in my brows using the Anastasia Brow Wiz and primed my lids with the Kat Von D High Voltage Primer in the shade "Skin." This primer is quite tacky, which helps the eyeshadows adhere better.
To ensure the Marsala shade pops, I applied the Makeup Geek Gel Eyeliner in the shade "Poison" as a secondary base. This bright red base intensified the color of Marsala when applied on top.
Next, I grabbed a skin-tone shade and applied it to my crease area using the Zoeva 222 Oliver Shader Brush. This creates a smooth base for the eyeshadows to Blend against and prevents them from sticking too much to the brow bone area.
For the transition shade, I used the Macaroon shade, a matte orangey burnt orange, and blended it lightly in my crease area using the Hakuhodo J5523 blending brush. This shade acts as a bridge between the red and the lighter brow bone color.
To build up the intensity, I focused more of the matte orange shade on the outer crease area and outer lid. This ensures a seamless blending zone for the red colors that will be applied later.
Now, it's time to Apply the star of the Show - the Marsala Matte shade from the palette. Using the MAC 239 brush, I pressed the eyeshadow over the base, tapping it to ensure it sticks and minimizes fallout. I continued to build up the color on the lid, avoiding the inner tear duct area.
To blend out any harsh lines, I used a clean blending brush, the Hakuhodo J5522. With Feathery motions, I went back and forth across the lid, ensuring a smooth transition from the lid shade to the crease.
Adding depth to the look, I applied the shade Rosette, a deep, dark burgundy-brown, on the outer lid area. Using the same blending brush as before, I blended the color into the outer area and slightly towards the middle of the lid and inner crease.
It's important to blend the edges to avoid any patchiness or harsh lines. If needed, go back and forth between the colors to achieve the desired coverage and blendability.
To enhance the intensity of the Marsala shade, I went back in with the matte Marsala eyeshadow and built up the pigmentation. Some blending may have affected the intensity, so it's essential to add more color where needed.
To complete the look, I applied the Toasted Nut and Autumn Blonde shades to the inner tear duct area using a small brush, blending them with the red shade on the lid. Using the same blending brush as before, I buffed out the edges to avoid a stark separation between colors.
For a subtle highlight, I used the Chutney shade, a light beige, under my brow bone with a matte 252 large shader brush. This also helped blend the colors on the brow bone and crease area seamlessly.
To finish off the eye look, I applied the dark burgundy-brown shade, Rosette, along my lower lash line using a MAC 212 brush. This adds a smoky effect. I also lined my lower waterline with a rich black pencil eyeliner, the Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil in the shade "Perversion." I smudged the liner with the MAC 212 brush for an even smokier effect.
A coat of mascara on both the upper and lower lashes adds volume and definition. I used the Too Faced Better Than Sex mascara for a dramatic lash look.
For those looking to take the eye makeup even further, false lashes can be applied. I used the Number 48 lashes from Nigel's Beauty Emporium, which are the same as the Lily Galici lashes. These lashes give a flirty and glamorous touch to the look.
To complete the overall face makeup, I used the Marc Jacobs Marvelous Mousse Transformative Foundation in the shade "Coco" and set it with the Marc Jacobs Perfection Powder Featherweight Foundation in the shade "Fawn Cocoa."
For those wanting to add dimension to their face, I recommend the Kat Von D Shade and Light Contour Palette. I used the middle contour shade, "Shadow Play," to contour the hollows of my cheeks and add a bit of shadow to my temples and hairline. This creates a more sculpted look without going overboard.
Adding a touch of peachy-pink blush to the cheeks creates a subtle flush of color. I used the Madame Rouget Blush from Girlactik Beauty. Any peachy pink or rosy red blush will work well with this look.
For the lips, I chose a nude with an orangey tone. I used the Buxom True Nude Lip Foundation in the shade "Bear" and lined my lips with MAC Lip Pencil in the shade "Whirl." To add a glossy finish, I opted for a YSL lip gloss in the shade "102." Any peachy tone lip gloss will work as a finishing touch.
In conclusion, the Sephora Plus Pantone Universe Palette offers a gorgeous range of colors that complement caramel complexions beautifully. The matte shades provide impressive pigmentation, although they can be a bit powdery. The glittery shades require a sticky primer for better adherence. Despite some drawbacks, this palette is a great choice for anyone looking to create a striking Marsala-inspired eye look.
