This was my third year attending, and I was excited to see what the convention had in store for me. The combination of a convention and a vacation made this event truly unique. With water parks, zip lines, arcades, and more, the Kalahari resort offered a plethora of activities that added an extra level of fun to the convention experience.
Water Park Fun at Kalahari Resort
One of the main attractions of Colossal Con was the Kalahari water park. If You booked a stay at the resort, you received complimentary water park passes, allowing you to enjoy the thrilling water slides, lazy rivers, and Wave pools to your heart's content. The resort had a variety of water park areas, each offering a different kind of adventure. Whether you were in the mood for a fast-paced water slide or a relaxing float down the lazy river, there was something for everyone at the Kalahari water park.
Exploring the Convention Center
Aside from the water park, the convention center itself was filled with exciting things to see and do. The exhibition hall was a bustling hub of cosplayers, artists, and vendors, offering an array of merchandise and collectibles. From anime figurines to handmade crafts, there was no shortage of unique treasures to discover. The artists alley was another highlight, featuring talented artists showcasing their artwork and prints. It was a great opportunity to support these artists and add beautiful pieces to my collection.
Attending Panels and Q&A Sessions
One of the main reasons I attend conventions is for the opportunity to meet and Interact with voice actors and industry professionals. This year, I had the chance to attend several panels and Q&A sessions with some of my favorite voice actors. One standout panel was the QA session featuring Ray Chase, the voice of Noctis, and Max Mittelman, the voice of Ryuji from Persona 5. The panel offered fans the chance to ask questions and learn more about their favorite characters and voices. It was a fun and engaging experience, showcasing the talents and humor of these voice actors.
Highlights: Ray Chase and Max Mittelman's QA Panel
Ray Chase and Max Mittelman's QA panel was a highlight of Colossal Con 2018. Both voice actors were incredibly charismatic and provided insightful and entertaining answers to fan questions. They shared behind-the-scenes stories, discussed their experiences in the voice acting industry, and even played games with the audience. One particularly Memorable moment was when they played a shipping game, where audience members got to choose which character they wanted to date. The panel was a perfect Blend of humor and fan interaction, leaving everyone in the room with a smile on their face.
Lava Light: A Hilariously Funny Improv Panel
Another panel that stood out was Lava Light, an improv group performance by Ray Chase, Max Mittelman, and Robby Damon. It was a hilarious and interactive panel where the audience got to participate in various improv games. Ray and Max showcased their comedic talents, keeping the audience entertained throughout. The highlight of the panel was a dating game where they played bachelors competing for the affection of a cosplayer from the audience. It was a fun and lighthearted experience, showcasing the chemistry between the voice actors and their improvisational skills.
Meeting and Getting Autographs from Voice Actors
One of the highlights of Colossal Con was the opportunity to meet and get autographs from voice actors. I had the pleasure of meeting Ray Chase and Max Mittelman, who were both incredibly friendly and accommodating. Ray, in particular, impressed me with his genuine enthusiasm and down-to-earth attitude. Their autographs were personalized and served as a wonderful memento of my experience at the convention. Additionally, I also had the chance to briefly interact with other voice actors such as Steve Blum, Chris Patton, and David Vincent, who were all gracious and engaging.
Showcasing Artwork and Supporting Artists
The artist alley and dealer room were a treasure trove of amazing artwork and unique merchandise. I was particularly drawn to the Final Fantasy and Persona 5 artwork, as these were two of my favorite game series. I couldn't resist picking up some keychains and prints featuring characters from both franchises. It's important to support artists and Creators, as they pour their time and talent into their work. By purchasing their artwork, I was not only supporting their craft but also adding beautiful pieces to my collection.
Final Fantasy Music Soundtracks and Artbooks
As a fan of Final Fantasy, I couldn't pass up the opportunity to add to my collection of music soundtracks and artbooks. I purchased the soundtracks for Final Fantasy 10 and Final Fantasy 7, both of which are beloved games with iconic music. The artbooks I acquired included the Vision of Escaflowne and Tales of the Abyss. These books showcased stunning artwork and provided Insight into the visual design of these series. Collecting artbooks allows me to appreciate the creativity and talent that goes into creating video games and anime.
