Building a PC on a Budget 💰

In this article, we will guide you through the process of building a PC with a budget of less than four million Indonesian Rupiah. We will be using AMD's Athlon 3000G processor for this build, which offers a great combination of CPU and GPU power in a single unit. Before we dive into the details, make sure to subscribe to our YouTube Channel, 11 Hardware, and follow us on Instagram at @11.hardware for more tech content.

Choosing the Right Processor: AMD Athlon 3000G 🖥️

The centerpiece of our budget PC build is the AMD Athlon 3000G processor. This processor features an integrated GPU, also known as the KPU, which combines the power of both the CPU and GPU in one unit. Unlike its predecessor, the Athlon 200GE, the Athlon 3000G can be overclocked to boost its performance. However, keep in mind that if you want to overclock the CPU, you'll need to invest in a higher-tier motherboard like the B450 from Gigabyte, which allows for overclocking.

Understanding the Motherboard: A320 vs. B450 Chipset 📦

For our budget build, we'll be using the A320 motherboard chipset from Gigabyte. The A320 is the most entry-level option in Gigabyte's lineup of AM4 socket motherboards. It does not support CPU overclocking, so if you plan on overclocking the Athlon 3000G, you'll need to allocate additional budget for a B450 motherboard like the Gigabyte B450M DS3H. The B450M DS3H is a micro ATX motherboard that offers a smaller form factor compared to the standard ATX motherboard, making it a perfect fit for budget builds.

Pros

  • Supports CPU overclocking
  • Affordable price point
  • Micro ATX form factor saves space

Cons

  • Limited features compared to higher-end motherboards
  • Less upgrade options for future expansions

Optimal RAM Selection: Kingston HyperX Fury 💾

When it comes to RAM, we recommend the Kingston HyperX Fury. For our build, we'll be using two 4GB DDR4 modules with a frequency of 2666MHz. It's important to note that you can adjust the RAM frequency to a higher value, such as 3200MHz, but we did not Notice a significant performance increase when testing it with the Athlon 3000G.

Storage Solutions: SSD vs. HDD 💽

For storage, we recommend using a Verbatim SATA SSD with a capacity of 256GB. However, feel free to choose a different storage solution based on your personal needs. The SSD will provide fast and reliable storage for your operating system and frequently accessed files. Keep in mind that the storage capacity should be adjusted according to your requirements, and it doesn't have to be exactly 256GB like the one Mentioned in this article.

Powering Up: Cooler Master MWE 450 Watt ⚡

While this is a low-budget build, we strongly recommend investing in a high-quality power supply unit (PSU) to ensure stability and safety. In our build, we used the Cooler Master MWE 450 Watt PSU. This power supply offers sufficient wattage for our components and comes with flat cables, making cable management easier. Investing in a reliable PSU will also prepare you for future upgrades, such as adding a discrete graphics card.

The Perfect Case: Digital Alliance Yunikor Shadow 💼

For the case, we chose the Digital Alliance Yunikor Shadow, a budget-friendly option priced around 355,000 IDR. However, you can select a different case that suits your preferences within a similar price range. The Yunikor Shadow offers ample interior space, supporting motherboards up to the size of an ATX form factor. It comes with a bonus exhaust fan that adds a touch of style to your build. The front panel of the case features convenient connectivity options.

Pros

  • Affordable price
  • Spacious interior for easy component installation
  • Bonus exhaust fan included
  • Stylish design with front panel connectivity

Cons

  • Limited airflow compared to higher-end cases
  • May lack some premium features

Total Cost Breakdown: Building the PC 💸

To give you an idea of the overall cost, here's a breakdown of the components mentioned in this article:

  • AMD Athlon 3000G Processor: Price
  • Gigabyte A320 Motherboard: Price
  • Kingston HyperX Fury RAM (8GB): Price
  • Verbatim SATA SSD (256GB): Price
  • Cooler Master MWE 450 Watt PSU: Price
  • Digital Alliance Yunikor Shadow Case: Price

Please note that the prices may vary depending on your location and the store you choose to purchase from. This breakdown is based on prices from NK Komputer in Bandung.

Performance Testing: Gaming and Video Editing 🎮🎥

Now, let's assess the performance of our budget PC build. We tested it by running several games and conducting video editing using Adobe Premiere Pro 2019. The Athlon 3000G processor performed well in lighter tasks such as video editing for simple projects. However, it struggled to achieve high frame rates in newer games. We tested games like Shadow of the Tomb Raider, F1 2019, Tomb Raider (2013), CS:GO, and Pro Evolution Soccer 2019.

Conclusion 🏁

In conclusion, building a PC on a budget can be a rewarding experience. With the AMD Athlon 3000G processor and carefully selected components, you can create a capable system for everyday tasks, light gaming, and basic video editing.
