🎮 Building an Affordable Gaming PC That Delivers Excellent Performance

Are you ready to dive into the world of PC gaming? Look no further, as I have built an affordable gaming PC that can handle games with ease, even at 1440p resolution. In this article, I will take you through the components of this exciting all-AMD gaming rig and share my thoughts on their performance. But before we jump into the details, I would like to express my gratitude to EBOA and Western Digital for providing some of the parts for this build. Without their support, this PC would not have come to life. Now, without further ado, let's dive straight into the PC build and the components that make it tick.

🖥️ Gaming PC Components

2.1 Ryzen 5 8600 G CPU

The brains of this gaming PC is the Ryzen 5 8600 G CPU. Recently released by AMD, this CPU features six cores and twelve Threads, along with the impressive Radeon 760M integrated graphics. While the integrated graphics can handle many games at 1080p, it does have some limitations, such as the PCI AX interface for graphics cards and less cache compared to the Ryzen 5 7600. Overall, the Ryzen 5 8600 G is a decent CPU, particularly suited for small form factor PCs where power consumption is a concern.

2.2 Gigabyte B650 M Gaming X Ax Motherboard

To complement the Ryzen CPU, I chose the Gigabyte B650 M Gaming X Ax motherboard. This Micro ATX motherboard boasts a robust VRM setup and a feature-packed rear IO, including 2.5 GB LAN, Wi-Fi 6E, and USB Type-C 10 Gbps ports. Priced at a reasonable £160 in the UK, this motherboard offers excellent value for its solid performance and extensive connectivity options. It's refreshing to see that budget motherboards no longer compromise on quality, just like the reliable B450 offerings of the past.

2.3 Western Digital SN 770m NVMe SSD

For Speedy storage and smooth gaming experience, Western Digital's 2TB SN 770m NVMe SSD is an excellent choice. This Gen 4 drive with TLC NAND offers read speeds of over 5 GB/s and write speeds just below that. While it utilizes an SLC cache, which may not be ideal for caching data, it performs flawlessly as a Game drive. Its compact 2230 size makes it perfect for devices like the Steam Deck and Asus ROG Allo. However, if you're building a desktop gaming PC, I recommend opting for the non-m model, which comes in a larger 2280 size.

2.4 AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT Graphics Card

The graphics card I selected for this gaming PC is the AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT. Priced competitively and offering more VRAM and memory bandwidth than its competitors, this card delivers excellent performance. It outperforms both the RTX 460 and 460 TI in terms of memory and rasterization power, making it a compelling choice for gaming at 1080p and 1440p resolutions. Enabling AMD's FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR) further enhances the gaming experience, especially at 1440p.

2.5 Crucial Pro DDR5 Memory

Here's where things got a bit tricky. Originally, I planned to use 32GB of Patriot Viper DDR5 memory, but it didn't work with two sticks due to compatibility issues with the motherboard. Instead, I settled for 64GB of Crucial Pro DDR5 memory, which performs flawlessly with this build. However, it's worth noting that 64GB is overkill for gaming, and 32GB would suffice. In a future upgrade, I intend to source 32GB of 6000MHz DDR5 memory for optimal gaming performance.

2.6 Corsair CX 650 Power Supply

To power this gaming machine, I went with the Corsair CX 650 power supply. This solid and dependable unit features an 80 Plus Bronze efficiency rating, ensuring it won't let you down. While 650W is sufficient for this build, I plan to upgrade to a higher wattage power supply to accommodate more power-hungry graphics cards in the future.
