Introduction

In this article, we will be looking at the performance of the GTX 460 graphics card in 1080p gaming. The GTX 460 is considered to be a budget-friendly option for gamers looking to play games at a decent framerate. We will explore how well this graphics card performs in various games and discuss its strengths and limitations. So, let's dive in and see what this budget GPU has to offer!

Setting up the GTX 460 and 1080p Monitor

Before we delve into the performance benchmarks, let's first talk about the setup process for the GTX 460 and the 1080p monitor. In the previous video, we discussed the challenges faced in connecting the GTX 460 to a 1080p monitor due to limited ports. However, with the arrival of the mini HDMI to HDMI cable, we were able to successfully connect the graphics card to the monitor. We also adjusted the refresh rate to optimize the gaming experience.

Adjusting the Refresh Rate for 144Hz Monitor

With a 144Hz monitor, we wanted to ensure that we were making the most of its capabilities. We created a custom resolution setting using the Nvidia Control Panel and tweaked the refresh rate. While we encountered some issues with setting it at 144Hz, we were able to stabilize it at 120Hz, which was a noticeable improvement over the default 60Hz setting.

Performance Testing in Various Games

Now, let's move on to the exciting part - the performance testing of the GTX 460 in different games. We tested a total of eight games to get a comprehensive understanding of this graphics card's capabilities.

4.1 Valorant

In Valorant, even with the GTX 460, we experienced smooth gameplay at 1080p on high settings. The average FPS was an impressive 158. We also experimented with low settings and found that the GPU could deliver an average FPS of 174, making it ideal for first-person shooter games where a higher FPS can give you a competitive edge.

4.2 CS:GO

CS:GO performed reasonably well on the GTX 460. While the Game defaulted to high settings, we were able to achieve playable framerates with an average FPS of 50. However, turning the settings down to low significantly improved the performance, averaging at 106 FPS. For competitive gameplay, it's advisable to prioritize higher FPS.

4.3 Fortnite

In Fortnite, the GTX 460 struggled a bit on high settings, delivering an average FPS of 49. However, reducing the settings to low solved most of the issues, and we achieved an average FPS of 73. Overall, the GTX 460 is capable of handling Fortnite at 1080p with some adjustments.

4.4 GTA 5

GTA 5 provided a pleasant benchmarking experience with the GTX 460. With texture quality set to high and other settings at normal, we achieved an average FPS of 62. Although framerate drops to the 50s were observed in certain scenes, turning on FXAA helped alleviate jagged edges at the expense of a slight decrease in performance.

4.5 Dota 2

Dota 2 ran smoothly on the GTX 460, even at higher settings. With the best-looking preset, we attained an average FPS of 42, which is satisfactory for a MOBA game. However, for competitive play, we recommend turning down the settings to medium, except for anti-aliasing, resulting in an average FPS of 88.

4.6 PUBG

PUBG proved to be a challenge for the GTX 460, even with settings on very low and a resolution Scale of 100%. The average FPS was only 24, making the gameplay less enjoyable. However, decreasing the resolution scale to 70% improved the experience slightly, with an average FPS of 38.

4.7 Tomb Raider (2013)

Despite being an older game, Tomb Raider (2013) still looked impressive on the GTX 460. On high settings, we achieved an average FPS of 48, while on normal settings, it bumped up to 61. The game offers an enjoyable experience, and we're considering adding Horizon Zero DAWN to our future benchmarks.

4.8 Battlefield 1

Battlefield 1 proved to be playable on the GTX 460, especially with the lowest preset and a resolution scale set to 70%. With these settings, we achieved an average FPS of 59. However, do expect further framerate drops during multiplayer gameplay or more demanding missions.

Final Thoughts and Recommendations

Considering the price point of the GTX 460, it offers a good deal for 1080p gaming in certain games with a few tweaks. While it may not be the best option for playing the latest and most demanding titles, it still holds its own in budget-friendly scenarios. However, if you have the opportunity and a bit more budget, there may be better options available in your area, so keep an eye out for deals. Overall, the GTX 460 provides a decent gaming experience at an affordable price.
