Introduction

Welcome back to another video on my Channel! In this video, I will be sharing a method to reduce input lag and improve the performance on GeForce Now, specifically for Windows computers. Please note that this method is not applicable to Macintosh computers. So, let's dive into the steps and get your lag issues sorted for smoother gameplay.

How to Reduce Lag and Improve Performance on GeForce Now

GeForce Now is a cloud gaming service that allows players to stream games on their devices. While it offers an excellent gaming experience, some users may experience input lag that can affect gameplay. Follow the steps below to reduce lag and improve the performance on GeForce Now.

System Requirements

Before we begin, make sure your system meets the following requirements:

  • Windows computer
  • GeForce Now app installed

Step 1: Accessing the GeForce Now Files

To start, right-click on the GeForce Now app and select "Open file location." If you don't have the desktop shortcut, you can search for "GeForce Now" and click on "Open file location." This will take you to the location of the GeForce Now files. Locate the file named "geforce-now.json." If you cannot see it, enable the visibility of Hidden items by going to the "View" tab and selecting "Hidden items."

Step 2: Modifying the GeForce Now Settings

Now that you have located the "geforce-now.json" file, right-click on it and select "Properties." In the properties window, unselect the "Read-only" and "Hidden" options if they are selected. Click on "Apply" and then "OK." Next, right-click on the file again and select "Open with" > "Notepad."

Within the Notepad, we need to make some changes to the file. Locate the following lines and modify them as instructed:

  1. Change "nv.sdl-vsync" from "true" to "false."
  2. Change "nv.sdl-io-hid-configurable" from "false" to "true."
  3. Change "nv.sdl-i-d-p-i" from "false" to "true."
  4. Change "nv.def-window-size" to your screen resolution. Replace the existing numbers with your screen resolution. To find your screen resolution, search for "resolution" in the search bar, click on "Change the resolution of the display," and follow the recommended resolution.

Step 3: Saving and Closing the Files

After making the necessary modifications, save the changes by pressing "Ctrl + S" or by clicking on "File" > "Save." Close the Notepad.

Step 4: Testing the Changes

If the GeForce Now application is already running, close it and reopen it. If it's not open, simply launch it. Wait for the application to load the modified files. To check if the changes have taken effect, click on the menu and go to "Settings." Scroll down and ensure that the "Direct Mouse Input" option is turned on. This setting minimizes mouse latency during gameplay. Launch any game to test if the lag has reduced and the performance has improved. If the option is not enabled, turn it on.

Pros of Modifying GeForce Now Settings

  • Reduced input lag for smoother gameplay
  • Improved overall performance on GeForce Now
  • Enhanced gaming experience

Cons of Modifying GeForce Now Settings

  • The changes may not work consistently on all systems, and individual results may vary.
  • Some systems may experience irregular keyboard and mouse behavior.

Conclusion

Congratulations! You have successfully learned how to reduce lag and improve performance on GeForce Now. By modifying the settings in the "geforce-now.json" file, you can significantly enhance your gaming experience. Do note that the effectiveness of these changes may vary from system to system. If you encounter any issues, you can revert the changes by following the same steps and restoring the original settings. Enjoy lag-free gaming on GeForce Now!
