🖥️ Ultra Budget Build: Turning Cheap Computers into Powerful Machines

Welcome back to Tattoo 1/5! I'm your host Nick, and today we're diving into episode number 2 of our monthly ultra budget build series. In this episode, we'll be discussing our $300 budget for this month and the incredible machine we've put together. But before we get started, if you haven't seen episode 1 yet, be sure to check it out in the description below to get caught up on all the excitement.

Episode 1 Recap

Last month, we tackled the challenge of building an awesome computer with a total budget of $258. We successfully built a machine and managed to flip it within a week for a total of $300, resulting in a net profit of $42. Now, armed with a $300 budget, we're ready to dive into this month's ultra budget build.

Overview of the Current Ultra Budget Build

This month, our ultra budget build comes courtesy of my buddy John, who sold us a fantastic setup for a total of $220. The stock configuration includes an i7 2700 K processor, a GTX 780 graphics card, 16GB of DDR3 RAM, a Creative Soundblaster Cordy, and a Z77 Extreme motherboard from Asrock, all enclosed in a beautiful case from Fractal Design. Additionally, it came with two 500GB mechanical hard drives.

Hardware Upgrades and Modifications

While the initial setup was impressive, we wanted to push the limits of the i7 processor. Upgrading the cooling system was a high priority, so we invested $35 in a Deepcool Gammax GT tower cooler. This not only allowed us to overclock the processor but also improved the overall aesthetics of the build.

To further enhance the performance, we decided to invest $30 in a Samsung Evo 850 240GB SSD as our primary boot drive. Additionally, we upgraded the graphics card to an RX 570 4GB model, specifically the ROG Strix variant, which we acquired for an incredible steal of $71 on eBay.

Benchmark Results

Now, let's dive into the benchmark results to see how our ultra budget build performs. We conducted both synthetic benchmarks and tested a range of games to evaluate its capabilities.

Cinebench R15

In Cinebench R15, the i7 2700 K with its higher core and thread count outperformed the previous Pentium G4620 build, showcasing its superiority in multi-threaded tasks.

Unigine Heaven

Unigine Heaven also demonstrated the i7's prowess, as it achieved better FPS and overall scores compared to the Pentium G4620. While the Pentium had the advantage of using newer and faster DDR4 RAM, the i7's higher core count and clock speed allowed it to shine.

Gaming Performance

When it came to gaming, the i7 2700 K showcased its prowess. In titles like Battlefield 5, the Sandy Bridge processor averaged 60 FPS, outperforming the Pentium G4620 by a staggering 13%. However, it's important to note that the i7 provided not only higher frame rates but also smoother gameplay with better minimum and 1% lows.

Other games, such as Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order and Apex Legends, also displayed the i7's advantages, offering better performance and stability compared to the Pentium G4620.

Selling the Build

After thoroughly testing the ultra budget build and obtaining impressive benchmark results, we made the decision to sell it. Within just two days of listing it on Facebook Marketplace, we managed to sell the build for a remarkable $375. This successful sale not only generated profit but also paved the way for more modern and upgraded builds in the future.

Conclusion and Comparison

In conclusion, both the Pentium G4620 from episode 1 and the i7 2700 K from this episode have their strengths. If the PC is purely for gaming and upgradability is a priority, the Pentium G4620 with its newer architecture and DDR4 support seems like a viable choice. However, for overall performance and multitasking capabilities, the i7 2700 K's higher core and thread count make it the preferred option.

Future Plans

Looking ahead, we're excited to embark on our next challenge: building a newer AMD system. With the success of this ultra budget build, we're confident that we'll be able to create an upgraded machine that delivers even better performance.
