Building a Threadripper Pro Test System

In our recent video discussing the 12th Gen for editing and content creation, we Mentioned our intention to compare it with a Threadripper Pro system. Today, we embark on the journey of building this system together. However, there is a slight twist - we won't be using a case due to the size of the motherboard. But fear not, let's build this over-the-top Threadripper Pro test system for science!

The ASUS WRX 80 Sage motherboard is undoubtedly one of the most absurd motherboards ever created. Its massive size and unique features make it stand out from the crowd. Paired with the Threadripper Pro 3975WX CPU, which boasts 32 cores, this combination promises exceptional performance.

To ensure optimal cooling, we've chosen the Noctua NH-U14S TR4 cooler. Its reliability and ease of use make it a perfect fit for testing purposes. And let's not forget the MSI RTX 3090 Ti Gaming X Trio GPU, which will provide all the graphics power we need. Finally, we have an open bench table and a high-powered Cool Master 1300 Watt power supply to support this monstrous setup.

The installation process requires special attention, especially when it comes to the CPU and thermal management. The Threadripper Pro CPUs come with a torque wrench that must be used to tighten the sockets to spec. This ensures the CPU functions properly without any loose contacts. After carefully installing the CPU and applying a carbonaut pad instead of thermal paste, we mount the cooler and secure it tightly using the color-coded socket retention system.
