📌 The Intel Nook: A Review of Performance, Durability, and Customer Satisfaction

Welcome to my YouTube Channel! I'm Carrie Holzman, and I like to do things a bit differently. While there are countless product reviews available on various websites and videos, how many people actually go back and revisit those products after using them? How many people eat their own dog food, so to speak? I've found very few.

In this video, I aim to share my firsthand experience with the Intel Nook. This barebones computer has evolved over time, with a couple of new versions released since its initial launch in April 2013. As a proud owner of this compact and powerful device, I have decided to provide regular updates to assess its performance, identify any issues, evaluate the customer support, and more.

My goal is to help you make informed decisions based on real experiences, not just hearsay from others. By reviewing products over time, we can determine which companies prioritize quality and customer satisfaction. Value matters, not just the price tag.

Now, let's dive into the specifics of the Intel Nook and how it has fared in my usage over the years.

About the Intel Nook

The Intel Nook, also known as the Next Unit of Computing (NUC), is a compact and lightweight barebones computer. It comes with a motherboard and a power supply, requiring users to install their own hard drive, wireless card, RAM, and operating system. The Nook is designed to provide powerful performance in a small form factor, making it ideal for various applications, including home use, gaming, and office productivity.

My Personal Experience with the Intel Nook

Since building the Intel Nook in April 2013, it has become my wife's daily driver for her regular computing needs. While she is not a gamer, she enjoys using social media platforms, playing casual games like Candy Crush, and browsing the internet. Her usage primarily revolves around typical home user activities. Additionally, a friend of mine purchased the Nook after being impressed by my build video. He uses it for gaming, specifically World of Warcraft, albeit with slightly lower graphics settings.

As of the time I'm filming this update in July 2015, the Intel Nook is over two years old. Throughout this period, I have experienced no major issues or breakdowns. The LS sticker on the front, which was included for free, has remained intact without any peeling. The Nook runs silently, indicating efficient cooling and minimal Dust buildup. It has not required any internal cleaning, as it doesn't Collect dust like traditional desktop computers.

Performance and Durability

In terms of performance, the Intel Nook continues to meet our needs exceptionally well. Although newer models are available, the speed of internet browsing, email checking, and other daily tasks has not been affected significantly. Considering its age, the Nook boots up quickly, typically within 42 seconds. This can vary depending on the individual's operating system and configurations. For us, it has remained a reliable and efficient device.

Durability-wise, the Nook has proven to be robust. It has not exhibited any hardware failures or malfunctions. The solid-state drive (SSD) performs flawlessly, and the wireless card and accompanying keyboard and mouse have worked without issues. The circuit board, housing the memory and storage components, shows no signs of wear and tear after years of use.

Customer Support and Service

One aspect I appreciate about a product is the availability and effectiveness of customer support. Fortunately, I have not needed to contact the manufacturer for technical assistance or repairs relating to the Intel Nook. However, considering the positive experience I've had thus far, I believe the company behind the Nook maintains a good reputation for providing reliable products.

Comparison to Other Barebones Computers

While the Intel Nook may not be the only barebones computer on the market, it has certainly delivered exceptional value. Its compact size, powerful performance, and reliability make it a standout option among similar offerings. When compared to other barebones computers, particularly in terms of price-to-performance ratio and long-term durability, the Intel Nook has consistently ranked high.

Updates and Upgrades

To ensure you stay informed, I plan to continue updating my experiences with the Intel Nook on an annual basis. This approach will allow us to track any changes in performance, support, and overall satisfaction. However, this will be contingent on the Nook's relevance and any potential advancements in the market that might warrant its replacement. Rest assured, I will provide you with regular updates, allowing you to make informed decisions when considering the Intel Nook or similar products.
