Gustav Mahler - an amazing, hardly known draft for a symphonic Scherzo in c-minor - COMPLETED
Possibly around the time of the 2nd symphony (exact time is unknown) Mahler drafted a powerful Scherzo (also in c-minor and with certain similiarities to the middle part of the 2nd mov. of that symphony). Especially the Trio in Ab-Major in the middle is just gorgous with a melodically wonderful and solemn theme which later develops to most passionate outbursts.
This fascinated me so much that I tried to complete it which I present to you here with the corresponding sketches. I admit that it was not an easy task to read and identify always correctly the notes from the sketches and the complex structure of that draft, but I tried to follow those sketches as good as for me possible and deviating only a few times. The - as I think - powerful Coda (10:50ff) however is composed by me (but still on the basis of those sketched themes).

Thank you, Rei T, for bringing this to my attention in https://youtu.be/zhpfyQhb0qg?si=uEicgFoMBExf6Mse ! I am astonished that I never heard of this draft before...

The draft is presented (though in a strange order of the pages) in : https://www.digital.wienbibliothek.at/wbrobv/content/titleinfo/2032879

Schubert Unfinished symphony - III. Scherzo (completed)
Several attempts have been made to orchestrate Schubert's complete piano sketches for the Scherzo's main part for his Unfinished symphony in b-minor and complete the trio of which only 16 bars of the melodic voice exist. Recently I felt I should try it also and I can say that I am more than happy about the result. Especially the beauty of the Trio in this form moves me ... You may like to compare this with the version of Prof. Newbould: https://youtu.be/WUFB3UflWqw The recording was made with NotePerformer.com score: www.gerdprengel.de/Schubert_Unfinished_symph_Scherzo.pdf And here is the Finale: https://youtu.be/L3yOwZ8OEns
Bach's Testament - his last composition BWV668a - for Orchestra
When Bach knew that his last days have come he dictated his last musical "Testament" - being blind (!) - to his son. It is a fantasy on the choral "Vor deinen Thron tret' ich hiermit" (Before Your Throne I come) - what a profound and moving expression of his coming death! 'There are some string quartet performances of this as the conclusion of his "Kunst der Fuge" ( see also: https://youtu.be/r7czOm91w3Q !) - but I felt it should also be rendered by an orchestra - for me a most sublime way of saying GoodBye ... I hope it will also speak to you ... Score: https://www.gerdprengel.de/Bach_BWV668a.pdf Recorded with NotePerformer.com Other of my orchestrations of Bach, Beethoven, ... you find at my YT playlist ...
