My lore now is too long to describe... but to put it as simply as possible:
My name is Pan, I'm originally from Montreal, Canada, I'm 6'5 and speak French, Mandarin and English fluently. I grew up in a single mother household (s/o to my mum) on government subsidy, but since then I've been able to forge a path for myself: I've been an actor in Asia, studied computer science in Canada, worked at big tech companies like Meta, Coinbase and Tesla Autopilot as a software engineer, and also been a YouTuber and streamer since I was a kid. I aim to inspire, entertain and educate by sharing my experiences and stories through the means of uploading my consciousness to the internet. Let's see how far I can push myself... - Difference with GitHub Copilot: Copilot is restricted to using GPT4 Turbo currently, which, not only is not the best model on the market, it's not even the best model OpenAI has. With PearAI, we use the latest models on the market and keep it updated. You will inherently receive 20-30% better generated coding results. Also the user interaction with the AI is much better, and allows for file generation as well.
- Difference with ChatGPT: PearAI will have better generated coding results due to using better models (Claude 3.5 Sonnet), and also an integrated AI in your code environment means much more efficiency: we provide you with codebase context through RAG (all stored locally on your computer), so you can talk to your codebase directly. You cannot do this in ChatGPT.
- Difference with Cursor: we are open source, meaning we have complete trust and transparency. We don't store any of your data. This also means we have better customer support, as we have an entire community willing to help you out. Also, we have better pricing! - Why can't be an extension? Because being an extension severely limits the UI you can change within VSCode. The future of coding cannot be an extension, it will require major UI rehauls that is not possible as an extension. For example, even UI popups within the file is not possible as an extension. If you prefer to use an extension, I'd recommend Continue.dev!
- Why VSCode fork? To maintain familiarity and allow people to switch to it easier. Also contains most of the functionality you would need within a regular code editor.
